    Why I LOVE this game

I finally settled on a franchise, and it's with the Red Sox. I made one deal in the offseason, that brought me Jake Peavy (rumored to the Sox this past offseason), and in return I sent the Pads Crisp, Clement, and another minor leaguer. I know the trade wasn't the fairest, but I love pitching with Peavy in this game.

Anyways, i'm playing the second game of the season against the Royals, Peavy vs. Od. Perez. I started out on fire in the first, with Manny going yard to put me up 3-0. It seemed like smooth sailing for Peavy as well, as he stuck out 6 in the first 3 innings (strikingly like real life yesterday). So he is rolling until the 7th inning while I am still up 3-0, and all the sudden he implodes. At this point, he has given up no runs on 11 K's. However, I give up 2 base hits in a row, get the next two batters out, then give up a 2 run double to Teahan. I brought in Donnelly to end the inning, still up 2-0. Now, in the 8th, I bring in Timlin, who immediately lets the Royals tie it, and I bring in Okajima. The game goes to extras, and in the 12th inning, they win on a 2 out double.

I love how what can seem like a sure win all the sudden explodes into a loss, despite dominance for nearly seven innings. It wasn't cheap either, as they capitilized on my mistakes. When I made a mistake pitch down the middleish part of the plate, they hammered it. That was Peavy's issue, as I was painting the corners through 6 2/3, then I started to miss spots, and I wind up losing.

I agree..a similar thing happened to me in my Yankees chise...I was playing the Mets in an interleague matchup in June and I was crusing through 6 with pettite. I was up 3-0 and wanted to have pettite pitch 1 more innings..Before you know it...after a few base hits and 2 bombs the Mets are leading 7-3. I go on to loose the game 10-5. Man i was pissed that I lost but thought it was cool how the game suddenly changed in the Mets favor..and like you said it wasnt cheesy either...they capitalized and a few pitching mistakes and an error by Damon.

Default sliders, or did you use custom ones?

Custom. I started with Heel's sliders, but found myself blowing teams out. The biggest things I can recommend are my hitting sliders for human and computer. For human, I have contact set at 30, and power set at 0. Gets me a great amount of HR's, not too many not too little. For computer, I have skill set at 45, contact at 50, and power at 55. I found these to be great, as I can shut down opponents with good pitchers, but when I use lower rated guys, they have their games, but they also get ripped a lot as well. I had one game in a previous franchise (fantasy draft) where I threw 3IP with Carpenter while giving up 7 ER. Next game, complete game shutout for Dan Haren. Next time around, I remember being torched with Haren. So, I get a good variety of pitching results.

With power at 0 can you hit homeruns to centerfield? I cant with it that low.

Very rarely. I did last game with Manny however. I'll sacrafice HR's to center field for more realistic HR totals, not a biggie to me.

This is a little off-topic but Peavy was in the 'zone' yesterday. I watched his highlights and looked at his expression after K's and walking off the mound, he was in another realm. If you've ever played sports and gotten into a 'zone' you know what it feels like, its the most wonderful feeling in the world.

Agreed. Very rarely does it happen, but when it does, it feels like you can do anything.

My senior year in baseball, over about a 3 game stretch, I had I think 9 hits, 5 of which were doubles. I gotta admit, I wasn't one of the best on the team, and usually hit 6th, but man, those 3 games were great. No matter where they threw it, I smoked it, usually into the gaps.

I had a decent season aside from that, but all 3 of those games I had 2 or more hits. The rest of the season aside from those 3 games, I think I had 3 or 4 games where I had 2 or more hits. So it was definitely a 'zone'.
