I also make it a point to never trade within my own division unless it was a salary dump and I was out of the playoff pitcher and getting top prospects back.
Is this a good trade or not..I would have to get rid of Biggio

Hmmm, if record matters, he just might! The Pirates are 6-0 vs the Astros this year!I think the Buc's might actually finish with a better record than Houston this year.....of course, that's not saying much in the weak NL Central.
On the sentimental side....no way would Biggio go anywhere. Biggio wants to retire in Houston and get his 3000 hit there.Comment

Re: Is this a good trade or not..I would have to get rid of Biggio
Since some people seem to be looking for advice here I figured I would seek it as well. I just started a GM mode with the Cubs, of course the owner wants me to ditch Lilly so instead of dumping him outright I figured I might as well get something for him. SD has accepted Ted Lilly, Cliff Floyd and Kerry Wood for Greg Maddux and either Jake Peavy or Chris Young. I have been leaning towards Young and Maddux since I dont see the day that the Padres trade away Peavy, where as Young is in the final year of his deal and could easily want to test free agency. Does this trade sound logical? Keep in mind, Wood isnt nearly as injury prone on the game as in real life and still has a ton of potential on the game so they are getting a pitcher who is rated slightly lower then Young but with more upside, a little more offense with Floyd and a serviceable starter in Lilly. I would basically be ranting Maddux for a season since Im 100% sure he will retire at the end of the season and Chris Young who isnt guaranteed to resign with me anyways. Seems logical and fair to me but wanted others opinions on it.Comment

“Okay Kevin, give me five minutes to mull this over and I’ll get right back to you.”
CLICK (Sound of the phone receiver being hung up)
“YIIIIPPPPPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAHHHHHOOOOOO!!! HOLY MOLY, those dummies are going to GIVE US PEAVY!!!!!!! Can you BELIEVE IT???!!!!”
In other words, not a fair trade IMOComment

Okay, here’s how I would determine if the trade is fair or not. I pretend I’m the Cubs GM, and that the Padres just told me over the phone they accept, and will toss in either Peavy or Young, my choice:

Yeah, I'd probably keep Lilly and Wood over Maddux and Young anyways, but then to have to throw in Floyd as well... Plus it's not like Wood in the game is like Wood in real life. In the game, he could pitch for years. In real life, his career was over years ago.Comment

Thats exactly my point, in some ways they are getting a better deal but my owner wants me to move Lilly and I dont want to pay Floyd to sit on the bench so to get anything of real value I had to throw in someone else and thats where Wood came in. I would have loved to have taken Peavy instead but I couldnt pull the trigger knowing that they wouldnt ever make that deal. Thanks for your answers, I did pull the trigger and Young pitched well in his first start, Maddux somehow beaned 3 batters and was ejected in the 3rd inning of his first start.Comment
