I'm convinced the individual ratings in this game don't mean anything

I have a pitcher (Yancy Brazoban), who is rated only a 69 overall, with a fastball rating in the mid 70's and can throw it across the plate at 100 mph. So if logic serves me right, then I suppose a pitcher with a fastball rating in the upper 90's can deliver it at almost 150 mph? There is no way that a pitcher with a fastball rating in the mid 70's should be throwing the ball 100 mph. It would be more realistic if he threw it at about 80+ mph. That's just one instance of the rating system in this game that's broken.

Don't even get me started on the batting issues. A player that's rated a F in power jacking up 40+ homers a season, please. Ichiro will never hit 40+ homers in real life because his lack of power, but in the game he can hit the ball out of the park like barry bonds.

Despite these issues, I still love this game.

Well there are guys who can throw hard heat but have weak command with the pitch and throw it with weak movement and just straight, because a fastball 88 mph in a corner is alot harder to hit then a 99 mph right down the middle. That means game bases not on just speed of the pitch but the movement and control of the pitch. Plus the fact ratings also go on the other ratings such as average, home runs, strikeouts and such.
18-1 hell of a season regardless

A high fastball rating does not necessarily equate strictly to velocity. The ratings takes into account command, movement, and velocity. Someone with a 100 rated fastball can throw in the low 90's, yet have extreme command and wicked movement. Therefore, their fastball is rated very high.

I'd tend to agree with you. One game with Kyle Davies I threw fastballs right down the middle every time and they ended up scoring 2 runs on 5 hits.
