Re: Hitting
I only know of two, classic and swing stick, is this what you're talking about?
Classic uses a push of the button to swing the bat. Swing stick uses the right analog control to swing via pulling back and pushing forward.Let's Go Yankees!

Re: Hitting
Button hitting: use the L stick to influence hit-type (up for flyball, left for left field, etc). The L stick in this mode is not very-well programmed, BTW. Way too easy to simply direct the ball exactly where you want it to go.
Swing stick: use the R stick to influence hit-type. But read the instructions first, because the mechanics are different than button hitting. Plus it’s more realistically programmed, more difficult, and has slider modifiers to adjust the difficulty (Step Influence).
Keep in mind all of the above are timed hitting only modes. Game is missing zone hitting unfortunately.Comment

Re: Hitting
I should add that I'm referring to classic not analog (swing stick) batting.
So, basically what I'm getting is that you can hold down up, down, left, or right to influence any of those types of hits and then just swing? But there's no need to swing towards different directions in the strike zone? The batter will do that automatically?
Why then, when you click the left stick for batter's eye does the little white circle move in different directions? When you move it somewhere, do you get locked in to that location?Comment

Re: Hitting
Not coming at you personally but you are misinformed when you say the zone hitting is nonexistent. If you push the L stick in any direction using the swing stick it is influenced, I did this experiment yesterday when I was the Red Sox. Everytime Manny and Ortiz were up I would hold the L stick up to the left and power swing and each time the ball pulled to where I wanted it to, go try it.. it really opens up the game when you realize you actually do have a say in where you hit the ball.Button hitting: use the L stick to influence hit-type (up for flyball, left for left field, etc). I think the problem is you can pull the ball or go the other way, regardless of where the ball is pitched, as long as it is in the strike zone. Not coming at you personally but you are misinformed when you say the zone hitting is nonexistent. When swinging, you do not have to use the L-stick at all if you don't want to. The batter will automatically adjust to the pitch to make contact. You won't be able to hit anything outside of the strike zone this way (i think... someone correct me if I am wrong).
When using the batter's eye, you are simply trying to guess the location of the pitch. If you guess right, the pitch location will be revealed to you, helping you decide if you want to swing or not. There is no penalty for guessing wrong and you are not locked into swinging at a particular location.Originally posted by tinpanalleyWhy then, when you click the left stick for batter's eye does the little white circle move in different directions?
