End the cant wait for MVP Madness
Ok stop with the love for MVP and saying MVP is so much better then 2k7. first of all MVP had one good year 2k5 and the guy that was responsible for that is with 2k now, so even if MVP came back it wouldnt matter. Have you seen EA lately? Madden, NBA Live cmon guysTags: None -
Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
I'm not seeing that much love for MVP throughout these boards so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Regardless, what Madden/NBA Live does now wouldn't necessarily reflect what MVP could have been (different development studios within EA - if I'm not mistaken). Brinkman did come over to 2K and he's been an asset thus far, but it's still up to the developers to bring his vision to light. The former MVP developers are all over the place (ie: 2K, SCEA, EA etc...). So I think he might get too much credit at times and the developers get too little.
IMO, 2K7 was decent post-patch...the last iteration of MVP was decent as well. Neither were outstanding games. Honestly, I haven't been really impressed with any next gen sports games. Sad to say it, but I'm expecting mediocrity in 2K8 and hoping for something better. Problem is, I don't think they'll fix the problems I have with the game (ie: poor hitting model and poor implementation of pitcher's stamina - velocity dropping with more pitches/innings). The graphics are superb though and the animations are getting better. Gameplay was pretty good overall. -
Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
True I agree with you it hasnt been great so far in the sports genre, but no sports game is going to be perfect . when you compare though 2k sports and EA you cant argue who has the better quality games. Though Ea with NHL 08 made good but MVP before 2k5 was arcade at best, so I will give Brinkman credit if anything for when he has been around the games have made improvements MVP 2k4 to 2k5 and 2k6 to 2k7Comment

Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
So why post that in a 2K baseball thread? Take it to the MVP thread ... and better yet, mvpmods and argue it there. Besides, the 05 MVP developers/programmers had as much to do with Madden and NBA-L as the 2K NFL/APF development staff has had to do with the screwed up hockey series.Comment

He is referring to the thread above it. People are trying to say MVP is the best game and then some are saying this game is. I don't care both games had their ups and downs.Comment

Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
IMO, neither MVP or 2K7 are the best baseball game ever. I'm just not seeing what others are in those 2 games. Probably because both feature the dreaded "up for flyball, down for groundball" hitting mechanics. I'm not a fan of that.Comment

The whole 2K vs EA thing always amuses me. I think both have released some poor games and both have released some good games. I know a lot of people favor one or the other, but I'm not seeing it. With that said, I haven't played every sports game from both companies so I do have to rely on what I read on these boards for certain games.
I do think Brinkman has excellent ideas and is good at looking at the big picture to see what the game should be 2-3 years down the road, but I often feel the developers get short changed. Those guys have to code the ideas and make them functional. In other words, I think the producer/director of a game is only as good as those writing the code.Comment

When you used the stick it is not like that. At least I don't think it is.Comment

Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
I can't check now as I'm at work. I think I already sold back MLB2K7 so I can't check at home either!
Anyhow, it's just not as intuitive as a 360 degree zone hitting approach. Of course, that approach is harder to master so not many want to deal with it. I like it though.Comment

Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
I'm pretty sure it is, but on the other stick. One stick you flick for timing, the other is used "up for flyball, down for groundball". I think left/right for where the ball is pitched as well.

Hmmm... I really can't remember. I could have sworn you influenced the hit direction with the other stick.Comment

Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
Only when using the "classic" batting...and even then it's not as simple as you make it seem. I've hit plenty of groundballs when pushing up on the stick and a few fly balls pushing down.Comment

Re: End the cant wait for MVP Madness
I just don't like the "up for flyball, down for groundball" method. It's not 100% that way, but more often than not, that's the case. Too simple for my taste and not exactly realistic. I thought Blue Shift did it perfectly in ESPN MLB 2004. That 360 degree zone hitting approach they implemented was superb and really showed how difficult it is to hit a baseball. No game has come close to that since (High Heat did it well too, but Blue Shift was better).Comment
