Arbitration-Will it be in MLB 2K8

I know Brinkman has stated in recent and previous interviews that he is not a fan of franchise modes...But how can we not have an arbitration system? It's the only way teams can hold onto young talent w/o committing huge dollars.

As the Phillies GM in the game my only choice for holding onto Howard is to offer him a huge contract a yr or two before he is actually eligible for free agency. That then screws up my hole entire budget, and the ability to acquire pitching etc. because I cannot offer Howard arbitration up until he is actually elgible for free agency.

I'm gonna go back to a previous game like All-Star Baseball where there was actually arbitration, and ask how can that game from last-gen have more features for franchise then a next-gen game???

NBA 2K8 has got pretty much most of the aspects of player contracts that you would need...Option years, Mid-Level exception. Will we see a similar improvement to MLB 2K8 or will we be getting only improved gameplay (which is desperately needed too), graphics, minor league teams, and stupid trading cards?

I'll bet just about anything that arbitration won't be in 2K8. I'll also bet waivers, rule 5 draft and many other aspects won't be in the game either.

Isn't it disappointing? I mean to build an effective team you need all of these options rather than just a draft, free agency, and trading. All of that is fine when limited to Football, or Basketball but baseball has a so much diverse world of acquiring talent.

I just don't understand how this can be overlooked. If there afraid of it not appealing to the "casual" gamer than just give the option to SIM everything but don't just not include it at all.

It would add more realism and add a lot of depth to the franchise mode. I enjoy that type of stuff so I'd love to have it included in a baseball game.

I agree. Not everyone enjoys that stuff, but if the developers put an option into keep Rule 5 or Arbitration On/Off, then everyone gets their wish.

          Wow...that's NOT good.
It's such a huge part of baseball.
A bunch of us keep asking for more GM/FO aspects of the game for the "other game" and while not yet, I have a feeling they will make it in there.
I really hope that 2K doesn't dismiss franchise options altogether.
They already shunned my favorite mode ...manage only mode...and it's a big reason I don't play this game very much.
No franchise would pretty much seal the deal

ummm, i believe he said that he IS a fan of franchise mode and gets caught up in roster management, and general franchise management moreso than playing the actual game.

At this point, I'd guess the current 2K team is just trying to get the game to a level where the gameplay and graphics are topnotch. Really, given how bad 2K5 and 2K6 were, they've no doubt had to spend all their development time on that alone. Hopefully after another leap forward this year ala 2K7, they can start looking at adding some of the non-casual baseball stuff next year.

Your correct I miss-interpreted what he was saying...Not on purpose...But does this mean we will see a better roster system...Arbitration, waviers, etc?

Brinkman: Well, just to clarify that – I'm a big franchise fan, but I don't like the ticket pricing and the hot dogs and all of that business. For me, personally, as a gamer, I don't like that, but I know that people DO like that, so we still have that in MLB 2K8. That being said, on the straight GM/people management side of things, we've got a lot of new things going on in Franchise mode this year. A lot of new stuff. I talked about this in the postmortem earlier this year, but we are adding 90 minor league teams. So obviously right there, there's going to be a lot more player management. You're going to have four games a day instead of one. Which game do you play? So there's going to be a lot of cool stuff which we'll talk about later on how that works and why you want to play minor league games instead of simming them out.

That sounds pretty promising for franchise mode. Franchise is what didnt keep me interested in 2K7, it was to boring and plane. Hopefully from the sounds of it that will be changed this year.

this feature would be great!!! I love the idea. I think all you guys should wait before you pass judgement. Remember that kushgamer said that they worked really hard on franchise in 2k8. So we just have to wait and see.
NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.

Working really hard on franchise last year translated to a new menu system which to me is cosmetic considering what should be done to improve franchise... a la lineups, CPU trades, Manager/staff issues, etc.

But they didn't work hard on franchise. They worked on gameplay to make it good. The three year plan is:

                          Year 1: Gameplay
                          Year 2: Franchise
Year 3: Bettering the overall game

It was like that with MVP too.

                              Lets hope this rings true.

Gameplay was a big improvement in 07. For 08 as long as I see take-out slides, players not running thru each other, and a better throwing mechanic i.e. not all throws on a bunt are bare-handed and thrown w/ complete accuracy....Then I will be happy...It's the franchise which will make or break this game for me...Everything from progression to player acquistions needs attention.

Here's to hoping we get some sort of arbitration system, maybe a rule 5, or waiver system as well...
