It doesnt matter a whole lot, but that is one ghetto looking score ticker in 2k8, definatley a step back for presentation.

Re: Ugly score overlay box...
I agree. It takes up WAY too much of the screen. When you can't see the full length of the bat because the overlays are getting in the way, you know you need to redesign it.
Come on devs, OBVIOUS PROBLEM. It seems like most developers are very smart in the techincal sense, but they lack common sense.Comment

Looks ESPN-ish to me. Well the color choice anyways.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I agree in the poor overlay. It's not the overlay as much as its positioning, though. Just bring it up to the very top of the screen. Why they don't? Re: Ugly score overlay box...
I agree that it needs to be pushed higher. There's empty space between the very top of the screen and the overlay.
Outside of that, it looks just like any overlay you see in baseball."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

You aren't allowed to put text on the outter edges of the screen. When making things for TV, there is an invisible area that is called "title safe".

I like it, especially the team logo in the background. Last years was so small you couldn't read it without a magnifying glass. Just hope they have all the team colors right (MIN (dark blue), STL (red), BAL (orange), SF (orange) etc.Comment

You're talking about in terms of editing. The safe area is basically that. It gives the editor a guideline as to where he can place something so that it appears on television and not out of screen. You aren't allowed to put text on the outter edges of the screen. But in the case of the overlay in MLB2k8, the overlay is placed too far inside that safe area. It can be pushed closer and tighter."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Ugly score overlay box...
It does. I think the complaint is that it's too low and covers the top of a hitter's bat and even comes pretty close to touching their helmets. But it's not a big deal. I don't care. I'm just looking for the next pitch."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. No, it can't. Trust me. First party certification testing (ie Microsoft and Sony) both test for this. In fact the 360 dev kit has tools to help by drawing the title safe area on the screen that developers can use to make sure there text is all within that area. You're talking about in terms of editing. The entire overlay doesn't have to be within it, but the text does.Comment

Ok, we're taking about the same thing. I just didn't know that the text safe area was that small. Thanks for the info. No, it can't. Trust me.
