Why No PC version?
When take 2 bought the license they talked about having the game across all platforms including PC. Does anyone know why this has not happened? Many companies sell games on PC as well and I don't buy the fact that they don't sell well. Look at EA and numerous other companies that place their games on the PC platform.Tags: None -

But it always comes down to dollars and cents in any corp...

Re: Why No PC version?
All games start life running on computer hardware, so putting out a PC version wouldn't be too difficult.
It's all about the consumer base, which for sports titles is usually the console market. Like most things, it comes down to maximizing profits.May 6, 1998: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 20 K

Re: Why No PC version?
Another problem with pc versions are compatibilty issues. With consoles you know exactly what you are developing for. On pc's, you have different video cards, cpus, storage, etc. It is a pain in the arse for sure. Another negative for pc dev.

Re: Why No PC version?
EA def. is not in the business of losing money and they release ALL of their sports games on PC so their def. is a market there. I believe that by also having the license deal they can maximize profits. To make a port to the pc is not that difficult most games that are made now do have one. If you look at almost any game released anymore there is a pc version.
I believe that sports games are better on pc imho. Easier to navigate and graphics are unmatched...and I have a PS3.Comment

With all that, it would rule if MLB 2K8 came out for the PC. I know I would buy it on day one!Sweet Mary Jane with eyes like the rain and alive to the sound...Comment

Re: Why No PC version?
I agree that they are not losing money and that was my post. Call of Duty 4. MOH, SIMS, You name it is on PC...so there is obviously a market there. I believe that madden pc is one of the highest selling pc games. Look at all of the new games that are released(Most) are also released on PC as well.
High Heat was ONLY a pc game until 2004 and they sold quite well. I am a firm believer that the pc market is there and that games made for it can be quite successful. As a gamer think of all the modding possibilities!! The game would be so much better. When there is a PC version I will always buy that over the PS3 version.Comment

Re: Why No PC version?
Maybe EA has put in the R&D over time that makes them able to profit now. Maybe 2K doesn't want to invest the time/money to do the same while they wait a few years or several years to make that money back. Also, EA has the luxury of a marketing department that knows what they are doing and allows them to sell games simply because it carries an EA logo....2K definitely does not have that luxury.
Maybe the cost of having PC production is worth it if you produce 10-15 games a year for it and maybe 2K doesn't have the resources to do so.
If it was as simple as EA does it so 2K should do it, then you would see every 360 and PS3 game available for the PC, but we don't and there is obviously a reason for it.Comment

Re: Why No PC version?
It's definitely true that EA are just putting out PS2 versions on the PC, which is a shame considering how good you make a game on a gaming rig. The actual percentage of gamers with such rigs though couldn't be high enough to warrant their putting out a "next-gen" version, or they'd have surely done it.
The games mentioned, like COD4, MOH, Sims, they all work better on a PC than a console, just by their very nature. They're obvious PC titles, whereas console gaming seems to be the main sports market.
I don't like it, but it's how things are.Last edited by JoeRyan33; 01-29-2008, 10:27 AM.May 6, 1998: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 20 K

Re: Why No PC version?
Some of the consoles BEST games appear on PC. Take Halo, and 2k game BIOSHOCK. So 2k has a pc component. Now as one of the posters has stated ALL games are developed using PC, games on PC are restricted due to numerous hardware configurations. Now I do understand to some degree why they would be reluctant, but with the exclusive deal they have no competition what soever on PC. When they signed their deal they promised that there would be a release across all platforms including PC, even if it was a port they would still make money.
As one poster stated that "those games lend themselves better to pc," does not make them failures on console. Same would hold true for sports games on pc. Now granted I have yet to find a game that matches HH2003 for PC, but more choices is always nice. From a business perspective a greater market share is also beneficial.Comment

Maybe, Kush just hates computers...I mean they rarely, if every update their own website or moderate their own message boards, so maybe, the simple answer is they just hate the PC.Comment

Even if it is the only pc baseball game out there, there is no way to tell if they would make money. If the business case supports it, you will see a pc game at some point. If it doesn't, you won't.
