Bottom line is that 90% of the folks that buy this game aren't sim and aren't looking for sim. Of course they gear this to the kids...they will probably make up the majority of their sales. As for the big heads, the fact that they are in here doesn't make the game less sim...heck, NFL 2K5 had "big heads" and I think folks thought it was pretty sim.

I think people just want to see the game in action and are a bit frustrated.

I guess this just caught me off-guard a little... I remember Brinkman saying he wanted to create the ultimate baseball sim, so I looked for that in one of his interviews and pulled this out:

"With MLB 2K8, we take the idea of being a sports simulation game very seriously, and as a result we make every effort to capture the utmost realism of major league baseball, from the way each player looks and moves to the specific mechanics you use to control the action, right on down to the exact detail of every stadium."

I like to have fun and goof off with my games once in a while too and this *might* be a nice little diversion, perhaps when a friend comes over to play or something. We'll see.

But I'd still prefer to see some other media instead of this.

I love how they can't fit alternate jerseys and unlockable stadiums on the 360 disk, but they find a way to keep total garbage like this and HR Derby in the game.

Yes, it's garbage to me because I don't like it. What would you rather I call it, a box of roses? I don't like big head mode. I feel it is garbage. That's my opinion on this silly game mode.

I won't ever play this mode either, but someone over at 2k felt the need to have it in their game. What's the big deal?

Nice..I know my kids are gonna love that mode I kind of like it...I think i will play a few Big Head modes myself. I like that the Umps have big heads as well.

Big Heads has been in the game for years. It's not new. The work to carry it over was negligible and there was no chance of it having bugs. So, its still there. We cut every other "cheat" from former iterations, because all they did was cause bugs and they were anything but sim.

Big Heads is kind of funny. I'll never use it in the retail game. But it sure was good for a chuckle when you walk around the office and notice someone playing with Big Heads out of the corner of your eye. Always reminds me of NBA Jam - "He puts the nail in the coffin!!!".

Trust me, there was no choice between having Big Heads or fitting all of the unlockables on a dual layer dvd. Big Heads take up zero extra memory. The Head is just rendered larger.

Yeah i wont use it as my primary mode of play but I am definitely going to try it out this year.I didnt even realize it was in the game last year..I might have to pop in 2k7 to check it out.

Actually, one cheat that I liked was the After Hours cheat. In fact, I think that would have maybe improved the framerate in some parks in 2K7 (but maybe not).

I was never hinting toward Big Head mode being secret (I know it was always in the game)... I was just quoting the other guy.

I don't know why people are saying that we shouldn't expect this to be a sim. I've heard a lot of comments about how it's just business and we can't expect them to gear this game towards the hardcore sim crowd. Well why not? 2k has The Bigs AND MLB Power Pros. And while MLB Power Pros was definitely the most "sim" oriented baseball game that came out last year IMO, the look of it is as casual as you can get. And for full blown arcade they have The Bigs. So why not give the hardcore baseball sim fans what they want with 2k8? Enough with this silly big head crap. Save this stuff for The Bigs and get down to the business of giving us the most realistic baseball game possible with 2k8.

Pretty sure Kush said it all with the big head being just a larger render of what was already there. It's not a very complex cheat that takes away from stadiums or alternate road uniforms.

That being said, I think the majority of frustrations come from the fact that these are the pictures we see when people are waiting so badly for other media (i.e. - a demo). However, I don't think 2k is just sitting, twiddling thumbs in their offices, wondering what they're going to release on this day...when it hits them to release screens of big head mode.

This was no "garbage marketing". This was someone with the demo in his hands taking screenshots of something mildly amusing. I'm really sorry it raised this hooplah.

You were right the first time. Pastapadre said the screenshots were sent by 2k. So it is part of their marketing.

People are indeed upset about seeing these images because we haven't even gotten much in terms of true gameplay. So when new pictures come up and we get Big Heads it's going to make fans upset.

Biggest waste of artists'/graphic designers' time I have ever seen.

C
