Alot of teams will bring there closers in the 8th inning of a World Series game.
They alluded to the WS in the pregame but this was not a world series game. There was no mention of it by the announcers after during of before the geame, the menu would have a playoff logo or say something like game 3 of world series(last years did). To me it was just an example of dumb cpu AI

        Lots of Whiny Nitpickers here...

IMO the gameplay looks solid, animations are great...I'm not crazy about the downgrade in graphics but then again I'm a certified graphics whore...But after last years gameplay debacles I'll take gameplay over graphics in a heartbeat.

I'm seeing far more good than bad with the animations, pitching/batting interface. Guess work seems to be over when at the plate, far more animations seem to be in the game. The cut scenes seem far more varied etc. You guys are killing me complaining about bat sounds, crouched stances and some of the other ridiculous complaints that seem to dominate these boards.

I'll be playing this and THE SHOW and will be enjoying them both...Its not about which one is better..Its about will you enjoy both...

Why does it look like the pitch slows down and then disappears when it gets close to crossing home plate? Is that a frame rate issue or something? It seems like everything is choppy as far as pitches approaching home plate.

There was another "choppy" incident I noticed where the pitcher was backing up 3rd base (I think it was in the 2nd or 3rd inning) and it looked like he skated all the way across the diamond and took only 2 or 3 steps.. the rest of the time he glided in a herky, jerky motion.

What is up with all the choppiness?

HOPEFULLY the pitch control sliders are working this year finally. And if not, HOPEFULLY we can lower individual pitcher control ratings, which didn't work last year either.
God I hope so.. pitching looks way too easy.

no offense oldschool but you have the option of playing The Show. At the end of the day 360 owners are stuck with this game for better or worse. Tiny nitpick to you are basic things which 2K should be delivering n. Mine are a lot of the player animations, cpu AI putting in Paps in the 8th. Morgan and Miller, crowd, bat sounds, he seemed to locate fairly easily, and other little things like how every homer is a moon shot or jut over the wall

How anyone can make a comment about the graphics from these videos amazes me. They are highly compressed and viewed in non-HD on the web. If they were in black and white i wouldn't care.

View these only as gameplay videos of a non-final build.

I think I'm going to cancel my reserve. That video look horrible and the graphics didn't look any better than 2k7, animations when moving were great though.

But man! Just don't look that much improved, other than all the new icons and cutscenes, other than that, its looks like 2k7. And you see they kept skipping the player face close ups, they looked bad too.

Absolutely no presentation or atmosphere in this game...just sad. how hard can it be to incorporate these features? it's like we're playin' every game at the Marlin's ballpark
ohh...& someone shoot the organ player will ya?

Maybe because it was an EXHIBITION GAME & not a FRANCHISE or SEASON Playoff game.. Jeannie Zelasko says in the opening:

"We are staging a rematch of the 2007 World Series"
If bat sound & crowd atmosphere is the major problems so be it. For me the animations & the game play look much better than last year. I loved the part when both Rockies outfielders basically watch that ball fall in front of them. Tells me the usage of the "Call-Off" button is important this year & adds realism to outfield play.

Even though the video is choppy, all of the infield animations look spot-on. The outfield animations look good, but could be better IMO. I saw batters go with outside pitches & get hits to the opposite field. I also saw times when Rhude tries to pull outside pitches & ended-up hitting weak grounders.

Yeah I saw Varitek kind of sliding on pop-outs behind the plate, but I also saw Varitek's Batting Stance being Spot-On. So spot-on that it look REAL. Yeah maybe Francona would've brought in Paps in to face Holliday in the 8th, but to say the CPU AI is just plain DUMB for not doing that is suspect IMO, especially when Todd Helton was the next batter.

I saw the CPU go from 1st to 3rd on base hits without any hesitation, unlike last year where they would basically go 1 base @ a time on hits. For me this 9 inning preview had more PRO'S than CON'S but to each his own

I definitely agree with that, IMO I just don't think the leap for 2k7 to 2k8 was marginal enough. Once again just my opinion and not trying to force it on anyone. To me the announcer, crowd, presentation, and a lot of little things kill it for me

The fielding camera looks too zoomed out. Just my observation.

That's cause he's playing the aerial view cam for fielding

I have no problem with that, but last year everyone complained about the game play, AI & animations being terrible. From everything I've read & saw, it seems like that was the main focus for this years title. Yes people can say, they should've also tightened-up the Presentation/Atmosphere before they added the Card Feature. I'm not gonna argue with that, but from what we know, the Card Feature could've been something that the higher-ups wanted. Or they ask Brinkman to add something new & this is what he chose.

All I know is this game looks leaps & bounds better than what this game was before Brinkman took over. Here's hoping that if the Presentation/Atmoshphe is really as bad as what we've seen so far, that this is what they work-on for next year, but for right now, what people asked to be fixed/tighten-up seems to be what they worked-on this year

I really wish that people wouldn't skip through the battery walkups and the moment after the hacks where you see them adjusting etc. Also why is the camera unusually high in the outfield?
