Can some help me with 2K8?

Basically, I need some help in what to expect for this game considering the fact that I never really played the new 2K series of baseball. I think the first baseball game that I really loved was World Series Baseball 2k3 (Giambi cover). I still think that game was the most awesome baseball game ever. Then I was intrigued by MVP 04 and blown away by MVP 05's deep minor league system and the fun gameplay. Well, for once, EA actually had the best game in the baseball genre and then they couldn't make major league games anymore. So I had a ps2 and I naturally jumped over to the Show series for two years and I thought that the Show '07 (ps2) was probably the most fun I had playing baseball since WSB 2K3. Now I have a dilemma, I bought an XBOX360. So now I'm going to give MLB 2k8 a chance. I'm just wondering what direction has the series taken and how is it similar or different from the WSB series, MVP, and The Show series. I played like two minutes of the 2k7 demo two months ago and it didn't really click with me. How would you compare the new 2k series or more importantly, 2k8, to the other great baseball games? (I know it's not out yet, but from what you've seen)

P.S. - From the threads that I've read, I understand that there is a rivarly between the Show fans and MLB fans. I don't wanna any fanboyism. I just wanna an unbiased opinion from an informed member on where they think 2k8 will fall amongst the recent history of baseball games and it's similarities and differences.

well, early on it was all the other baseball game that received attention. With its new graphics, deep gameplay and the road to to show feature, everyone was picking this as a early favorite to win the battle.

As of late, MLB 2k8 has won over many fans with their graphics, sig styles, new in-depth minor league system with the top 100 prospects, 18 authentic minor league stadiums (more to come via digital download), the cards feature (which everyone thought was to be a gimmick, turns out that they worked hard on this and should be really fun to unlock the cards and field a team with them), theres just under 100 former players in the came that you unlock and can use in exhibition and in fielding your card team (From Albert Belle, Fred McGriff to Tom Seaver and Ted Williams) and the uber amount of information they are starting to release.

My pick would be MLB 2k8.

The only "rivalry"(or bad rivalry) is from gamers who don't understand we need both games to survive and do well. With that said I'm getting both games mainly because I love baseball. I can say I prefer the Show BUT I haven't played either 08 version yet (except for the demo for The Show 08 which I loved)
So I'm just basing it off of 2K7 and The Show 07. I think 2K8 is another step in the right direction for the series. Once they get the core gameplay down and eliminate some roster handling issues, which they may have done in this version, then they really need to hit the presentation stuff.
You certainly are not going to be disappointed with 2K8 from what we've seen from videos etc and impressions from those that have played it.. but again not a lot of people have played it in depth yet to see if there will be any major issues.
So pick it up and have fun with the game. That's the most important part.

I can't be considered a "fanboy" of The Show, because I don't own a PS3, and therefore, can't even play that game. But the The Show was a better baseball franchise than 2k, hands down.

To answer your question about 2k7 vs. 2k8...If you played any version of 2k7 and didn't like it...then there is ZERO reason to run out and buy 2k8 without playing a demo or renting it first. They can throw out all the screenshots and marketing lingo they want, but that's been done for practically every video game ever released. For example, it's great to hear that I can now hit the ball in 12-15 different frames instead of just 3. But if that difference isn't even noticeable, or doesn't make hitting FUN, do I care?

Re: Can some help me with 2K8?

This series had taken a turn for the worse, unfortunately after KUSH Games took-it over(World Series Baseball 2k5) They had some great ideas, but the ENGINE & GAME PLAY needed to be re-done. After the debacle we know as MLB 2K6. 2K Sports brought-in Ben Brinkman(Main Producer in the MVP Series) to get the series up to par. Last year they made some strides but again The ENGINE & GAME PLAY was still broken.

Enter this development cycle. We've heard they re-wrote a bunch of the code. Mainly in the GAME PLAY Dept. They tighten-up the Batter/Pitcher Interface. New Hitting Engine(many feel it's very MVP like). From previews the animations are seem smoother due to them bumping the frame rate(30 to 60 FPS)

IMO, this series can't get any lower than it's already been. My gut feeling is we are gonna have a good baseball game on the 360 this year. Again that's my gut feeling. If for any reason your still ambivalent about the game, may I suggest renting 1st.
