    Generated Counts

Does anyone have any info on if this game can generate counts for online and franchise play.

If you don't follow what I mean, High Heat baseball 2002 for the PC had an option to have the ball and strike counts be automatically generated. Like say you set up to the plate and the count would be 3-2 and you face the 3-2 pitch or it would generate a 2-1 count.

This would be really cool to have this feature in online games or during a franchise to get in alot of games in online leagues or franchise, as well as quell the you threw a ball too many times stuff when playing online.

I remember the generated counts feature in HH. I understand why people like it, but I thought it was a little silly personally.

All star Baseball had that feature as well. I actually liked it. It saved a little time playing, not much, and it was cool because with ASB there were no sliders. I found that the power hitters were so good (60 HR+ power) that it was easier to get them out and helped get some of the power numbers more realistic.

Also it made the number of walks more realistic. Drawing walks or pitching them. I have never really had any success getting a game set where number of walks are in line with real MLB.

Great idea that I would love as an option but at this point in gaming it shouldn't even be necessary. You know?
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

            Re: Generated Counts

Yeah, ASB had it. I liked it because it trimmed game time down. It was the only baseball game I ever made it through 162 games. I set it up for a 2-1 count. As Bamboo said, there were alot more walks that way. Games took about 20 minutes to get through. So I could sit down for an hour and get a series in, instead of just one game.

In 2K5, there was a "cheat" in the skybox that you could start the count with a strike or two.....and another cheat for the batters that started each count with a couple balls. So in the past it was possible....not sure if is still there??

The biggest problem was pitch counts. If the game doesn't count the "generated" pitches, then the counts will be too low. If the game does count them, then the pitch counts get to high.

I can understand why the hardcore sim guys are repulsed by generated counts. But for those of us in the 80% sim category, it is a great feature.

              Re: Generated Counts

Actually it would be more realistic if the counts were generated off of real pitch take and hitter aggressiveness stats.

For example, when Todd Zeile was Met in the 2001 season. Elias Sports Bureau had him as the player with the most pitches seen per at bat. Zeile I believe saw at least 5.xx pitches per at bat.

That I believe can't be done with the normal batter pitcher interface but with generated counts you would get a more realistic amount of pitches per batter if the counts were generated in that fashion.
