    When IGN reviews MLB 2K8.....

I am not sure if I can trust IGN reviewing a 2K game. The last time they reviewed NBA 2K8 they gave it a 7.9! NBA 2K8 is THE best basketball game I have ever played! Basically, I am not too confident that IGN will give MLB 2K8 the score it deserves.

It seems to me that gamespot has surpassed them in the reviewing department.

If they've played less than 8 hours of the game, the rating will be lower than deserved.

I'm on my 6th or 7th hour of play, and I'm enjoying the game more and more as each game goes by. The learning curve for this game is going to be fairly large, and long. That's how it feels at least.

If this game gets an 8.0 or higher, I'll be surprised, and amazed.

One thing that I have a feeling we'll hear a lot of with this game, is that it's "too hard".

Yeah they gave College Hoops 2K8 an 8.2. I thought it was the best college basketball game ever made, maybe that's why their the experts.

Yeah, I don't mind a difficult game as long as it's difficult because of the game itself and not because the computer cheats or the controls are wonky. Hopefully with 2k8 it's not the latter two.

I understand the concern over IGN's review, b/c more often then not, IGN's review ends up as the starting point for assessing new releases. But more often than not, they do a pretty good job, at least the text portions of the review, if not the actual numeric score.

But you also need to take into account that these scores are relative, and honestly, 7.9 and 8.2 are realistic scores for the sports titles we've been seeing. Those are good scores, but they lower than your average superstar FPS b/c reviewers need to leave room for improvement, and there IS huge room for improvement with MLB, College Hoops, and practically all titles.

Not when you contrast that with the 8.7 they gave Madden last year, or the 9+'s they regularly score that game as. Even the admittedly poor Madden 06 got an 8 from them. And NBA2K8 is a "7.9" in their eyes? IGN is a flat out joke and has been for years - why people continue to make them relevant is beyond me.

"It's too hard"...doesn't bother me either. MLB2K7 was too easy. I just hope that it is playable out of the box...Meaning I don't want to go through slider hell to get to play the way I want it. Looking at some of the screenshots of the slider menus they are metered instead of numbered. That really pisses me off. Why? It's so tedious trying to set a slider w/ a damn meter instead of an actual number.

Yea...if this game is difficult, but not in cheating/ridiculous way like the All-Madden difficulty w/ Madden then the challenge will be welcomed.

You can't believe these reviewers. IGN The Show Review says

"Online play, which was pretty good last year, is definitely stronger thanks to SportsConnect, which has received some new features….With updated scoring and leaderboards, as well as weekly roster updates, online matches are definitely improved events, and they run without any hitches."

And from people who have the game say the online wasn't good at all last yr and so far the new game its been unplayable online.

Sports games never get good reviews from those nerds.

The same Gamespot that fired an editor because he wrote an honest (and negative) review about a game that was highly advertised on their site? Yeah, sorry bro, but I dont think I can trust Gamespot anymore for reviews. Just use metacritic and look at all of the scores at once.

You are absolutely correct about their sports reviews. Giving Madden 08 an 8.7 was a complete joke. NBA 2k8 getting a 7.9, and then reviews NBA 08 (SCEA) a 7.5, and scoring 6.9 for NBA Live. In the words of Geico's cavemen, Ummmm...What??? 1 game that is in need to be overhauled and the other 2 with obvious improvements to gameplay. Their credibility in reviews has really went down the tubes with sports titles. We'll see how they treat 2k8 with the 10mins that they play and review with. I bet they will throw in a "nothing new here". So we'll see

my take is, who cares what IGN says, there are not even close to being creditably when reviewing sports games, I don't even read the reviews for sport games, they stink when it comes down to it.

I called my gamestop, mine is in. I preordered it. It better be good or I am writing a letter to 2K and demanding Ben Brinkman be pulled off the as the producer of the game. But I will wait and judge for myself. F IGN and the other magazines they no nothing. It's me the consumer who decides if its a good game, but I heard The Show is really good 2k better not let me down.

Ok, how can you blame Brinkman for the game's past disappointments? The man made the MVP series what it was, and has spent the last year two years cleaning the game up from total crap. Even if 2k7 wasn't what everybody wanted, it was markedly better than 2k6, which shows that hiring Brinkman was a good thing. Not that the guy is my best friend or anything, but when I heard that he would be working on this game, I was excited for where he would take the series.
