Pull back for the step(I can't time this for crap so I have the step influence turned all of way down), then roll the stick to the side you are trying to hit the ball too. Pushing outside pitches works well. Pulling inside pitches works well. Pushing inside pitches gives weak hits, foul balls, and whiffs. Pulling outside pitches does the same.
Yeah, rolling the analog stick left/right works fine. I can make good contact for shots down the line and such.

But any shot to the outfield that SHOULD be a potential homer practically dies mid-air and turns into a routine pop fly.

I'm thinking about going back to the swing stick from last year where I could actually use contact swings and check swings....or I may turn back the hands of time and go back to using the classic button setup again. Anything HAS to be better than this.

Its frustrating. Because the CPU hits all kinds of hits. Frozen ropes, Gappers, Doubles down the line, etc.....

I have noticed the swing feedback always says late step. I tried stepping as the pitchers knee was at it's highest point in the windup and it vanished. Seems really early to me, almost un-naturaly early, but the feedback says its right and the hit results are better, more line drives.
My Friend Chris owns me in 2k8. Seriously, I suck.

        Go Friars!

Watch your swing on replay. You can use the triggers to advance it to just the frame he throws it with. Really helps your timing a lot more than guessing by what that little note says. The pitchers go from windup to release too fast for you to really know exactly where you screwed up, but using the replay really solves this. The timing window is very small, imo, and often times what looks correct in live action isn't nearly correct enough to hit that small window.

I also think if you are going to error, it's way better to error early than late. For one, I don't think the game punishes you as much doing it early, and for two, I think it lets you get off a better swing at the plate that way.
