Did 2K8 fans get Rick Rolled?
So I was pretty excited to play MLB2K8 after seeing all the evolutions in gameplay at the private demo last week, and after the conference call with Brinkman we aired on All Games Radio. I was surprised to see so many frame rate issues with the demo and the full version. On our show today I mentioned it was like getting Rick Rolled after buying the game. This led to us making a call to 2K to Rick Roll them as a way to blow off some steam and make light of this frustrating situation. The result was pretty funny and the link is included below.

What's he talking about, there were lots of framerate issues in 2K7? -

I'm with you. I honestly never noticed it. So instead, to try to improve this "problem," we got worse graphics AND a worse framerate.Comment

Re: Did 2K8 fans get Rick Rolled?
The fact that the game runs at 30 frames per second or lower at all times is a pretty big issue to me. At least 2K8 has its main moments during 60 FPS.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Did 2K8 fans get Rick Rolled?
I think framerate issues may have not been as noticable in 2K7 due to the fact that the game ran mostly at 30 frames. However, if you played night games in some stadiums, the game would run in 60 frames and the stuttering would be more noticable. There was no "pauses" inbetween batters in 2K7 like there is in 2K8. However, people were complaining about framerates in 2K7 too, but all of a sudden, the issue isn't there? I think many people just got used to the look of it. Also, since 2K8 runs mojorily in 60 frames, stuttering is more noticable. In many of the presentation cams in 2K7, you can clearily see the framerate issues until the camera zooms in on the players.
What's even more interesting, in 2K7, if you go to replay mode and pan around the stadium, you'll find spots that chug the graphics engine (which would be framerate related), however, if you do that in 2K8, no such chugging exists. I think a lot of the gameplay hiccups when the ball is in play, may be caused by how the camera follows the ball. If you slow the replays down and zoom into the ball and slowly go back and forth with the tirggers, you'll actually see the ball skip forward and backward like it's warping into different places.Comment

Re: Did 2K8 fans get Rick Rolled?
Yeah and the point of the call we made was that the clip from Brinkmans call is that the game is running BETTER than last year and almost NEVER goes to 30fps. Having played both back to back that simply isn't the case. This game doesn't look or move as good as 2K7 IMOComment
