    PS2 Owners Beware!

Bought 2K8 the other day. I've been an "MLB: The Show" player for the past few years, but I liked the right analog innovations, full minor league system, and details about GM Career mode I had read about in various previews for 2K8 so I figured I'd try something new.

HUGE MISTAKE! The PS2 version of the game DOES NOT include right analog pitching, fielding, or swing stick 2.0. It also DOES NOT include full minor leagues (A, AA, AAA teams). The player models look absolutely horrible, fielding animations look horrible, and visually, overall, the game is poor. The rosters are sorely out of date. Johan Santana was still on the Twins!

I'm not trying to hate, and I can't speak for any of you next gen owners. As far as I can tell the response has been positive for X-Box and PS3 (except for the frame rate issue which will be fixed shortly from what I understand). Any PS2 owners on the fence between 2K8 and The Show don't even give it a second thought and go with The Show.

I'm mostly disappointed with 2K Sports. Nowhere did I read that these features would not be included in the PS2 version of the game. Had I known that, it would have saved me the time, hassle, and money of trading in 2K8 for The Show.

I'm guessing it's just 2K5 with some updated rosters and camera angles. Terrible.

It's disgraceful. I would say borderline insulting to gamers and baseball fans even.

Yeah, unfortunately, while Sony wants you to think it still supports the PS2, the fact is, all of the sports games now run totally different on the PS2 as they do on the current consoles. If you think it's severe on something like this, try a game like FIFA.

I bought 2k6 for PS2 after MVP went away. Easily the worst sports game I've ever bought. If 2k8 is just a roster update to that, well I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Blzer, I was curious what you thought about the grass and ball friction this year. It seems much improved and every time I think about or see it, I remember you bringing it up all the time ( 360 version)

I understand what you are saying, but with a 20 million customer base, you really should provide a better product. That is just business sense. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it should be playable.

Why would it be Sony's fault that 2K saves their innovations for next gen systems?

The PS2 now is considered a "legacy" system. With that kind of label, of coure they aren't going to put much effort into it.

I totally understand that the PS2's of the world will soon be obsolete, but there are still lots of us who can't afford to drop a few hundred dollars on a next gen system. Of course they're not going to put much effort into it, but at least put SOME effort into it. 2K8 for PS2 was definitely ZERO effort and that's what's insulting.

                        Re: PS2 Owners Beware!

The full minor leagues are a cheat, because it has nothing to do with graphics.
I felt a little cheated with NCAA FB 08 last summer with the recruiting innovations, and decided to get a PS3 this summer before release of 09. I should have gotten it sooner.
Either way, I am shelling out 4 bills this summer to keep up with the sports game innovations.

I'm playing The Show 08 on the PS2. The game is completely updated with new modes, features and refined game play. Take a shot at 2K for not supporting the PS2 version, sure. But your comment about SCEA doing the same is completely inaccurate.

                            Re: PS2 Owners Beware!

I don't post here very often but I'm always reading posts about various games. I'm really kind of let down by this version also. After reading, like others, about all the new features in this game I went and got it to find none of those features are included in the PS2 version. Like others I'm not fortunate enough to be able to afford a PS3 or 360 so I'm stuck with the PS2 for now. It just irks me that developers just don't care about the PS2 anymore. This game is pretty much 2K6 with a different roster. If thats what I wanted I would have spent the weeks or so moving and creating everyone myself. Its just peer laziness from them really. They can't say that the info won't fit on the disk, cause look at MVP 2005. They had:

Fully playable A, AA, AAA Teams
                            Minor league stadiums
                            All the major league stadiums
                            Franchise and Owners modes
I played as Milwaukee in MVP and the had the get up sign and Bernie sliding down the slide after a homerun
In owners mode you got to build your own stadium, from a base mode but still got to add different parts

If they say its because of the swing stick even NCAA MVP games added that. The info will fit. Yeah it might not look as pretty as the 360 or PS3 version but I'm not expecting that. I'll take the graphics it has now with some added features at least.

At least they could have added the stadium updates in 2k8 to make the stadiums real, but no Miller Park looks the same in 2K8 as it did in 2K6. They didn't add the lcd screen in left field, the dew deck, or the mercedes-benz field level seats.

Sorry about the rant but even us lowly PS2 owners deserve better than what we receive from developers. It would be nice to have some new features once in awhile instead of paying for what they say is a new game and getting only a roster update.

I assume most PS2 owners are smart enough to realize things like the swing stick and analog pitching won't be there, I can't believe it's a shock to anyone?
