Q, I'm very interested in your findings as well. What difficulty are you starting on?

Re: Q*bert's Game-Tracking Thread
I would say that my AI Hitting and User Pitching settings are looking pretty good right now. CPU made need just a slight bump in skill, but they're averaging about 4-5 runs a game against me, which is right on the MLB average. This is with me no longer throwing a ton of meatballs; maybe five a game depending on the pitcher(s)...Comment

Re: Q*bert's Game-Tracking Thread
Q, these sliders are driving me nuts...Some seem to work when changed & other's seem ratings based... I'm to the point where I'm about to put everything @ 50 since I've always believed 50= Players EXACT Rating & when going up or down you move that players rating either up or down.
Many have argued with me about this, but this game the more I play it has me feeling my theory is correct... Time for some more testing...Comment

A lot of my settings are similar to yours and lots of defaults or close to it. I don't have AI or User Skill as high as you though (higher than default, maybe in the 65-75 range)...Comment

Game Two -- ATL (user) @ PHI
Going with Hudson for me and Hamels for Philly at the Citizens launching pad. Do they have stadium factors like last year? Want to try two good offensive teams to see if I can get some more runs on the board. Most I've seen combined in any of my games is 9 or 10... BTW, does this game kill anyone else's controller battery? Must be all the vibrating (giggity-giggity).
T-1: Chipper two out single, then Teixeira bombs a double when Hamels gave me a fatty and Jones scores from 1st. Francouer 2R jack as I guess the inside FB! Durbin is up in pen... Encouraging results from Hamels so far (7B-14S).
B-1: Utley two-out 2B, IBB to Howard. Burrell up with two on... Ump screws me on the call on a 3-2 change. Bases now loaded with two outs for Jenkins... Stayed away all AB then came in with a 2S FB for the swinging K to leave 'em loaded!
T-2: Johnson bloops a 1B to center on an 0-2 junkball, Hudson bunts him to 2nd. 2 outs, Escobar at the plate... flies out to LF.
B-2: HBP for Dobbs on the knee to start the inning, oops... Ruiz F8. Hamels drops down a sac, Chipper inexplicably tries to barehand it and boots it. 2 on one out for Rollins... grounds out 5-3 didn't try for the DP... Victorino F9 to the track, too close for comfort!
T-3: 1-2-3 with two called 3rd strikes. I think a lot of the problem is that the ump gives the AI anything even remotely close to the edge of the zone. Funny, they don't seem to do that for me...
B-3: Burrell singles to LF w/ 2O past Chipper who decides not to react to the relatively slow grounder. Jenkins grounds out to 2nd to end the inning.
T-4: Holy crap! McCann battles back from 0-2 to draw a one out BB! Diaz grounds into inning ending DP. Can't figure out how to break them up like the CPU does...
B-4: Ruiz smacks a 2B to LCF. CPU decides to PH Helms for Hamels (14B-39S, 53P, 4IP, 3R) with one out and man on second... Helms 1B to left but a strong throw keeps Ruiz at 3B. 1st & 3rd, one out for Rollins... 3R HR as I try for the perfect 2-seamer on the inside corner on 3-2. Suffice to say it wasn't so perfect and I deserved that! Utley two-out 2B to RCF, should I int-walk Howard again? Think I'll throw him 2 junkers then decide... Sh*t, should have walked him. 2R HR on another attempt at that 2-seamer on the inside that I didn't execute. At least I'm getting punished when I screw up, not when I do what I want. Burrell grounds to 2B to end the inning.
T-5: Romero in for Hamels. Johnson goes down looking after two more BS calls that were just out of the zone. Watch some overhead replays on the 'close' ones. They're not that close... Hudson up, bullpen is weak so I'll stick with Timmay... Seeing shadows creep over the plate due to the 4PM start time, very nice... Hudson goes down swinging. Escobar grounds out 5-3.
B-5: Jenkins leads off and dribbles to 1st with Hudson covering. Dobbs flies to left. Ruiz flies to left.
For all of you complaining about the game not looking bright enough during day games, mess with your picture settings. I just upped contrast & brightness a little and changed color temp from cool to medium and now it looks sweet on my LG DLP. I've found this when going from NHL 08 to FIFA as well. It's kind of annoying to have to do that, but it works. I often do the same with real sports on the tube. And no, I'm not on any perception-altering substances...
T-6: Kotsay at the plate and singles past Utley. C'mon Chipper... Kotsay thrown out attempting to steal 2nd. Chipper Ks on a deceptive change. Big Tex goes down swinging. Romero's change is killing me...
B-6: Taguchi PHs for Romero (thank you!),grounds up the middle with Escobar making a nice play to get to it before smashing into Johnson for a infield hit. Oh-oh, J-Roll at the dish, better get the 'pen up and moving for Utley/Howard... Hard GB to 2nd, beautiful DP turn by Escobar as he leaps over Taguchi to barely get Jimmy at 1st!!! Another nice play up the middle by Escobar to get Victorino to end the inning. I like this kid...
T-7: Condrey (RH) in for PHI. Francoeur out 5-3. McCann up 3-0, lets see if I get that heater down the pipe like 2K7... NO!!! Two FBs inside and a grounder to 1st, fudge... Diaz bloop singles to center. Perfectly hit and run on 2-0, but I line in foul down the 3B line... Ground out to second. Pitcher's spot will lead off the 8th.
B-7: Ohman (LH) in to face Utley/Howard, Acosta (RH) up just in case he gets in trouble and may have to double switch. Ohman Ks Utley with a wonderful pitch sequence (FB low/away, FB low, change low, FB in, SLD low/away, FB low/away). Now that's pitching... Big man Howard at the plate, let's work him too... Or not. Howard homers to left on a 1st pitch change that gets too much of the plate despite perfect execution (its only rated a 52 though). Frustrating... Burrell homers to LF on another perfectly executed pitch (FB on the hands). Maybe raising CPU skill a few clicks was a bad idea. Jenkins (LH) is up, so Ohman gets one more chance. Jenkins down swinging too. I love the lefty/lefty matchup! Wait, Dobbs (LH) is up so Ohman stays in. Better sit down Acosta before he tires... More good pitching to K Dobbs looking as Ohman strikes out the side, but surrenders two big dongs.
T-8: Willie Aybar to PH for Ohman (at least that worked out)... A diving J-Roll throws out Aybar. If the FR wasn't a little choppy that would have looked so good... Escobar can't catch up to a high 1-2 FB and strikes out. Oooh, Shane-O-Vic makes a leaping catch at the wall to rob Kotsay of extra bases. Very nice...
B-8: Acosta (RH) in to face Ruiz and the pitcher's spot. Gonzalez (my man from PIT) warming up as I'm going to turn Rollins around. Screw J-Roll! Ruiz singles to center on a 1-2 slider low & away. Phillies curiously leave Condrey in to bat (bunt I'm assuming). I guess they are up 7-3, but I think any MLB manager would PH and come with the closer in the 9th... Yep, sac bunt, this time Chipper decides to make the right play and throws him out. Acosta IBB to Rollins to set up the DP. In comes Gonzo with S/L/L due up. NO BRYAN MCCANN, I DON'T WANT TO THROW AN 0-1 SLIDER HIGH AND DOWN THE MIDDLE! I get away with a meatball as Vic flies to deep to center, Ruiz advances to 3rd. 2-2 slurve in the dirt, Rollins to 2nd. Very cool... Perfect high and tight FB to get Utley swinging on 3-2. Howard left on deck, down 7-3 heading into the 9th.
T-9: No Lidge. At least they didn't leave Condrey in to bat then bring him in... Chipper leads off and grounds to Howard on 1-1. Tex flies to CF on 1st pitch FB that I should have killed.: Shadows completely engulf the infield now, very nice... Franco down swinging on two straight baffling (to me anyways) sliders. I lose (again) 7-3. I need to check my VIP stats (yes I leave it on, FR really doesn't bother me that much), but I don't think I've won yet.
My thoughts on the game: very good all-around, I goofed up on a few pitches and paid for it, as it should be. Howard's second HR and Burrell's jack were questionable, but at least it was two power hitters. I'll probably drop CPU skill back down like two clicks as I think I went up five before the game. Probably move user skill up 2-3 as there were a few I think I deserved better than I got. I just don't want to start moving everything around after every game, so I'll leave it at that. AI pitching was a little better (74% strikes) but not good enough for me.
Final Stats: PHI 7-11-0, ATL 3-6-1
ATL -- 40B-68S, 62%, 3BB, 5K, 3 2B, 4 HR (ouch, but it was the Phillies)
PHI -- 26B-77S, 74%, 1BB, 9K, 1 2B, 1 HR (hence the skill up 2-3 clicks I think)
Going to play another, but screw the blogging for now, as it takes way too long and I can't stand to hear another "Fan Mail Question" and I'll be out of town for the weekend, so I need to get my fix before we leave this afternoon...Last edited by Qb; 03-07-2008, 11:31 AM.Comment

Game Three -- MIL (user) @ CHI
OK, a match-up of aces with Zambrano and Sheets on the hill in the Windy City. Zambrano was 1st in NL in BBs last year (32 BB rating), so let's see if that has any affect on the AI pitching. The Brew Crew can rake, so I'm hoping for some offense after raising User Skill 5 clicks after looking at my VIP stats. I'm hitting .192 and averaging right around 3 runs per game. Yuck...
Well, I have to get ready sooner than anticipated (get to use the wonderful in-game save feature) as the wife is getting out of work early so we can try to beat the weather. We're going to Edinboro, PA (near Erie and it's wonderful lake-effect snow) to see her family for her birthday and they're expecting a foot of snow up there. To top it all off, I've had to give up drinking due to recent medical issues. So let's see, stuck in the house with the in-laws for the weekend and no drinking allowed. Yeah, this should be real fun...

Re: Q*bert's Game-Tracking Thread
Finally!!! I made a few changes and I am now seeing some realistic pitching from the AI! I played a game against the CPU at my brother-in-laws house over the weekend without my profile. I set the sliders as best I could remember, including AI speed & corner at 40, which is what I used in 2K7. AI throw stikes were all at zero (what I had been using). But I didn't realize that I left AI use Inside Edge on... and voila! The CPU pitchers pounded the lower half of the zone, threw balls and I drew some walks. I didn't use this last year or so far in 2K8, but I think that it should be on, as it sure seemed to make a huge difference.
Just finished a game with the above settings, FLA @ PIT (user):
FLA --- 6R-10H-0E
PIT --- 5R-10H-1E
Pitching
FLA -- 131P (43B-88S, 67%), 3BB, 4K
PIT -- 132P (47B-85S, 64%), 3BB, 8K
Batting
FLA -- 10H, 5 2B, 2 HR
PIT -- 10H, 8 1B, 2 HR
I lost in the 10th when former Pirate Jose "El Perro" Castillo doubled in the winning run (it sucked as Bay was in the corner against the wall to make the catch on the icon, but didn't try). I think I may need to lower AI Skill a bit (too many XBH) and raise User Skill & lower contact a shade (too many singles & not enough Ks). I lowered Foul Ball Frequency to 85 for both, but might bump it back up to 90 or 95, as I didn't see as many as I was before on well-executed pitches. I like the feeling of the batter fighting one off to stay alive...
Duke got shelled early (4R in the 1st) but settled down and reached the 5th. Vanden Hurk pitched into the 5th, but was yanked after Bay's 3R HR tied it at 5-5. Both teams relievers were solid; I think being able to throw at max effectiveness (without worrying about fatigue) really helps. I also found that if you turn off vibration, it's much easier to put more 'juice' on your pitches.
The CPU didn't attempt a steal or hit and run, despite having Hanley Ramirez and Cameron Maybin on base in running situations. They didn't even extend their leads much at all. Ramirez was on in the top of the 8th or 9th in a tie game, which is a perfect running situation and nothing. I have AI Running Aggression at about 85, so the CPU is aggressive on balls in play, but no luck with running on the pitch.
EDIT: Oh yeah, finally stopped being stubborn and did the VIP framerate fix. It made a difference on plays across the infield; not huge, but noticeable. It wasn't butter-smooth like 60FPS would be, but looked a lot more like the 50-55 that BB referred to (I think thats what he said anyways). Hopefully they can patch it soon...Last edited by Qb; 03-10-2008, 12:25 PM.Comment

MIL @ LAD
Another good game with the same sliders, aside from lowering AI Batting Skill slightly (maybe too low). Billingsley was really wild early, walking the first three batters to start the game. He couldn't get an out in the 2nd (back-to-back HR by Cameron & Hardy) in by far the worst start I've seen. He finished with 1IP, 3H, 3BB and 22B-13S for 37%. Loaiza came in and was somewhat more accurate, but still walked two in six innings. Beimel pitched the last two and I probably could have drawn one or two, but was impatient with my late lead. Overall LA was at 54% (55B-67S) on 122 pitches.
Ben Sheets was great for me; 8IP, 3H, 3R, 3BB, 9K on 29B-71S. Gagne closed it out with a 1-2-3 9th. As I said before, guess I went a little too low on the CPU skill (55 or so). Or it could have just been a solid start by a good pritcher. Who knows...
I had three singles and three homers, but no doubles or triples. I'm thinking that I may have to lower User Power slightly and raise User Skill. I noticed that BFJ has it at 100, I believe.
I'm starting to enjoy the game much more now that the AI is pitching more realistically. I have no choice but to attribute that to turning on IE for the AI pitchers. Before I did that I was lucky to see 20 balls/game, now I'm seeing 40+ and BBs when I'm patient. Now if we could just figure out how to get the CPU to steal and hit & run when they should...Comment

If he ever comes back, I don't see why KushGamer couldn't answer this definitively.Comment
