Question for realism fans & slider tweakers that have the game

Does MLB 2K8 play a realistic game of baseball out of the box or with slider adjustments?

Does adjusting certain fielding sliders reduce or completly remove the fast paced/jerky movements that fielders make?

Does adjusting A.I pitching sliders make them throw a realisitic amount of balls & strikes?

What about the home runs?Have they been reduced?

Home runs are definetley very hard to hit (at least for me anyway). This is a good thing imo. I didn't play 2k7 or 2k6 so I can't say if it's reduced or increased from previous version(s).

A lot are saying that the CPU is not throwing enough balls...Well I agree with this out of the box. However I lowered total strikes thrown all the way down to 0 and it seems VERY realistic to me. I have to be patient and I can easily draw walks.

The only thing I am trying to get down now is pitching. I had one great game with Felix Hernandez. For me actually the easier pitches are harder to throw and the harder ones are easier. Example: The fastball for me going down and straight back up is never a sure thing I am going to get a good gesture. On the curveball though I ride the outter edge of the analog stick "track" and I really can't mess it up all that much. Changeups are the worst. I can barely ever throw a good changeup. I think I need to slow down the movement of the right stick for my gesture. I am a little afraid that the CPU might get a boost in power on meatballs and just bad executed pitches. I am still playing out of the box though with the human pitching.

Overall I think this game is great and sliders work so pretty much everything can be tweaked to ones liking. What I like most is realistic hitting (if you just go straight up instead of to the left and to the right to direct) and I really like how every game can be different. It's all about execution. If you win you really deserved to win. It's definetley a challenge on both ends of the field.

I tested a theory early this morning & the truth is this game needs NO major Slider Tweaking. I found out that once you move certain slider past a certain point in either direction (Left or Right) that slider will default to the next lowest setting which then causes all the sliders to default to the next lowest setting.

OTB after lowering AI Throw Strikes & reducing Fielder Speed & reaction if possible without screwing up all the other sliders, this game plays a helluva a game. I tested this on LEGEND & had 2 great games against both SANTANA & HALLADAY. I didn't hit 1 HR, & the hits were hard to come by

If I took more pitches, pitch counts would be more realistic but a 65 -75% strike ratio with the AI strike sliders set to 0 and me throwing to the catcher's mitt is working nicely. As usual, I'm more conservative at the plate with my pitchers, who are drawing some walks. Definietly have swung at ball four on 3 - 1 and full counts with regular guys.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna get the game today....I just wanted to make sure some of the problems that are in the demo can be fixed with sliders(A.I throws WAY too many strikes in the demo, and the fielders movements/reactions are too fast).

I am just having a very tough time pitching. It's too sensitive. If I barely make a mistake the CPU crushes it for a gapper or HR.

Keep pitching in the tutotial.Thats what I did before I played a demo game.I only spent about five minutes in the tutorial and already had pitching down by the time I threw my first pitch to the leadoff hitter.

Don't throw every pitch your catcher suggests either. He will often want you to hang curveballs, sliders and other pitches that are best if kept low.You can shake him off by moving the ball indicator to the location you want, then if you press (A), he will set up at the spot you just chose.

Yeah, you will get the hang of pitching. with Adam Wainwright, I threw a complete game, shutout, 14 k's, 4 hits. awesome performance. loved every minute of it.

Thanx for the tip guys....I am playing on All-star and I did pitch one great game with Felix Hernandez. I was pitching against the Rangers with Josh Beckett and I was 6 innings deep only giving up 2 hits and my pitch count was low. I made the most minor mistake and it was hit for a HR. Then things just fell apart more HR's and extra base hits.

I am thinking about possibly tweaking the AI batting so their contact and power is way down and possibly making the pitching a little harder to compensate a little for that.

The problem I am having is too many extra base hits given up especially HR's. It seems they are scoring on back to back extra base hits and HR's. I don't give up enough singles and walks.

                    Yeah I noticed that too.

I think that you should be punished for your mistakes, but the punishment shouldn't be giving up a home run everytime you make one.Hitters like Sal Fasano shouldn't be crushing mistakes how Miguel Cabrera would.

This is so frusterating. I can be pitching so good and just make one little tiny mistake and they absolutley crush it or they hit a gapper for extra bases. I threw a change up down and in and the cpu hit a HR to opposite field near the foul pole. There is definetley some tweaking to be done to this system for next year. Just because I miss executed a little bit with the analog stick on my pitch doesn't mean the CPU should automatically crush it. What happened to hitting it where it's pitched?? On that changeup in he should of pulled it hard if anything. The hitting physics are great in this game but just on pitches that I mess up on with the analog stick it seems like it changes.
