    Changeup/Fastball

So tonight I tried to throw a changeup and botched it horribly and instead of it being a changeup it was a fastball. I was like...what? The motion I did was for the changeup, it was just poorly executed (a gesture score of 17), why is it a fastball? Then it hit me...I think this is on purpose. A changeup is thrown with the motion of the fastball, same arm speed, etc, just the ball gripped differently. When you botch it, it turns into a poor fastball. Anyone think this makes sense?

You know I was always thinking the same thing. I was wondering the same thing as well and now you just shed some light on this. I think you have a point. I never thought of this before. Also note that it's a poor fastball usually around 5 or so mph slower then your fastball. Which is very realistic.

Man they really got this pitching down pretty good. I think this was their MAIN focus. So many things are great about it. I just wish that the AI logic was different. I want to see more singles from the CPU and not extra base hits and HR's. It seems like the CPU gets a power boost when I mess up the pitch no matter what. Most of the hits I am giving up are either long balls or extra base hits. Where's the seeing eye singles bloopers and walks???? That would make this game play PERFECT imo. The hitting results I am getting are awesome. I love how each player at the plate really brings something of their own. I just wish I can somehow get pitching to be realistic for me. I am thinking about just lowering AI batting skill and possibly lowering their power big time too. If I am too dominant I will just adjust it again. I will try this tomorrow.

      Hey Dave,

I have some sliders posted in the slider thread that have given me some great results. I have AI skill and contact at 0 which give me a great amount of hit variety. I have only played 3 games with them, but been really happy with the results. In my last game, the Nats had 9 hits...7 singles and 2 doubles.

Yeah, definitely makes sense. This happened to me against the Cards. Pujols kindly placed it in the crowd. That was the end of Pedro's outing.

A gesture of 17? What did you do? Go north then east? LoL . . .

That makes sense though. Good observation.

That's really cool man. I like how the pitching is...I really do. I think they nailed it especially since it's the first year of this pitching. I think they did a SUPERB job with it. I wasn't expecting this much out of it. I really think most of this year's production went into this new pitching.

I like how every pitch is going to be different. The variability (if that's a word) is insane. However like I said I am just giving up way too many long balls and extra base hits. I have played over 35 games and gave up at least 1 hr in each game.

I can't wait to try lowering AI batting skill down to 0. I can't wait to see what happens. I really am hoping that I can cut down on these HR's. I want it to be a challenge but at this point it's just plain ridiculous. I am focusing so hard to get outs which is great but when I barely make a mistake I don't think it should be a gauranteed HR or even double. Why can't it be fouled off?? Maybe I should increase foul ball frequency as well.

All I know is if I can make the CPU hit with the same or around the same skill as me then this game will play the best game of baseball to date that I have ever played.

I played a game (Mariners vs. Giants) where I pitched Felix Hernandez againt Tim Lincecum.

The game played out perfectly where my Mariners went up 1-0 in the 3rd inning where Ichiro worked the count from 0-2 to 2-2 by fouling of three pitches and finally slapped an outside pitch between short and third which scored Yuniesky Betancourt from 2nd (close play at the plate).

In the next inning, the Giants tied it up with three straight singles off of King Felix, but with two runners on and no outs, I was able to work out of the jam only giving up the one run.

I took the advice of someone and adjusted a few of the AI sliders and the games are playing out great.

On a couple of the meatballs that I served up, one of them was luckily just fouled off while the other was a double over Raul Ibanez's head in Left Field.

I'd recommend playing with the sliders for more desirable result.
