I was trying to close a game out with Papelbon and I was just nervous. I knew that if I made one mistake everything I worked for in this long tough game would be right out the window. I never felt like this in a video game before. Really makes you focus and is really rewarding. Also can be very frusterating as well.

this game really puts you on the mound
The fact that if you lose focus just a little bit you can give up runs pretty quickly really puts you out there on the mound.

I agree with this. It's one of my favorite things, yet also annoying at times when you slip up.
There are times when I just do not have a feel for a particular pitch at all with a guy, and that is something that pitchers go through.Comment

Re: this game really puts you on the mound
I find myself feeling like Henry Rowengardner after he lost his arm strength when the catcher calls for the slider...im shaking it off and throwing something else...i cannot get hat pitch to go right for me...love the pitching...especially with Pelfrey...or other 5th starters...When you see it...you'll know what it is...Comment

Is there a way to go visit the mound in this game? I heard there was but I can't find the thread where I saw howComment

Re: this game really puts you on the mound
Not only do I not have a feel for Tom Gordon's 12-6, I don't have a feel for any of his pitches. In my season, before I traded him, he was 0-2 in three games, with 2 blown saves and 17 earned runs. Ugh.Last edited by Tomasperez9; 03-12-2008, 08:03 AM.YNWA

Re: this game really puts you on the mound
weird I tried doing that. I see the line up card, I select the the pitcher, and I get a box that comes up that has 3 options, but the words are missing, I'm just seeing 3 empty boxes. If I press A on the first box it brings up his stats. What slot is that option?Comment

try pressing A on the other empty boxes, it could be a bug.....Comment

Re: this game really puts you on the mound
I have to agree on this one. Never in a baseball video game have I had to concentrate so hard on pitching over the whole game, worrying that I could give up the 2 or 3 run lead I'd worked so hard for the last 7 innings. That anxiety is really exhilerating and amazing that they could make you feel that intensity in a video game. When you mess up and throw a meatball, you know what you did wrong and it really puts you in a pitcher's shoes.
I also love the difference of controlling your ace versus your 4th or 5th starter. It really makes you focus on strategizing your rotation depending who you're going up against and how aggressive you have to be at the plate. I've also found myself giving up intentional walks when guys like Ortiz come to the plate with a runner on, afraid of lobbing a meatball right into his wheelhouse. The pitching is one of my favorite aspects of this year's game!PSN ID: mmdmaznn

I couldn't agree more. Additionally having a dependable bullpen is important. If you have scrubs out there you are going to stuggle to keep games close or make a comeback.Comment

I like that strikeouts are so much harder with the new pitching. You really have to earn them - especially when you don't have inside edge. Hitting the corners is harder. And I agree they made some logic changes to pitchers that aren't rated as high, even in the classic pitching mode they tend to get lit up.Comment
