Frustrated With 2KSports Baseball Effort on the Wii....

I am disheartened with buying 2Ksports baseball games for the Wii and being let down. I have been buying WSB and MLB2K since WSB2K1 on the Dreamcast.

I have now purchased three 2K baseball games for the Wii, and all three have been a huge letdown in terms of Wii controls. I just want a control system that is a realistic representation of playing baseball, especially with respect to hitting, since that is something that I really enjoy (I hit batting practice several times per week in real life).

I loved Wii Sports baseball, even though it is actually a very limited representation of the sport. The thing is - it was fun to hit in the game, and the minigames (home run derby, placing the ball to left, center and right and batting practice) actually made it a fairly deep hitting simulation. Swinging the Wii-mote in Wii Sports baseball at least allows you to use the motion you use when swinging in real life.

I couldn't wait last Spring when 2K announced that they would be making a baseball game for the Wii. I immediately thought that the worst I could expect is something a little better than Wii Sports Baseball, but with major leaguers. The Bigs was a huge letdown for me. Inexplicably, you had to swing half a second early because the game design was so poor. All in all, it just did not allow you to swing the Wii controller like a bat.

Power Pros was a little better, but still a letdown. You had a Wii-controlled home run derby and a really bare bones exhibition game. As far as batting controls went, it was about the same as Wii Sports baseball. But - since you could only hit in home run derby and exhibition games, it was fairly underwhelming.

I just picked up MLB 2k8 yesterday, and it is a major disappointment. I can't believe that this is the best they can do with batting controls. Basically, while you can technically swing the bat with the Wii-mote, your bat control comes completely from the nunchuk. You have to aim the nunchuk to influence your swing. It simply is not an enjoyable or interesting representation of hitting.

At this point, I feel like 2Ksports has let us down three times with Wii baseball titles. Instead of giving us a game that allows you to swing the Wii-mote like a bat (the fundamental, yet simple appeal of Wii Sports), we have three games in which the Wii-mote is little more than an afterthought.

It is going to take a lot (i.e. people would have to be absolutely raving about the Wii controls on here) to get me to buy another 2KSports baseball game for the Wii.

Im not sure this is all 2k's fault, some of it is just the way the wii works. The movement with the wiimote gestures aren't usually 1-1, with wii sports being an exception.

i thought power pros was pretty sweet though =)

Ya - I can see with TT having all of the uncertainty and distractions with management having a negative impact on the overall quality of its games.

Still though - MLB2K8 was a $49.99 game. It is ridiculous for them to charge full price for a game that literally has the quality one would expect from a $19.99 value title.

Case-in-point, even though it was a different time and much different business conditions, 2K sold NFL2K5 (arguably one of the best football games of all time) for $19.99.

If TT is going to sell that game for $49, the bar has to be set pretty high.
