Is it just me or does this game have ridiculous ...

comeback code AI. I swear to god, I play on all-star and no matter what I do if I've actually been lucky enough to score a few runs and god forbid I have more than the other team, I'll put in my closer... (i've tried Jenks, Lidge, and Putz in my franchise so far) .. or relief, or even my dominating pitcher if I leave him in.... it's like the computer just can't let me lead the game after more than 2 innings... they hit homers where I hit full effectiveness, out of the zone offspeeds that I hit with pinpoint accuracy... **** should NEVER happen I don't understand it. Ok maybe once in a while but not 4 times a game, it's ridiculous. Today my closer let up a pop fly that shoulda ended it, but for some reason it locks me on the spot directly behind where the ball drops, guy gets a single, next guy 8th batter hits a 2 run homer on a curve out of the zone I swear yellow dot right in the middle of the green circle ... next game same situation I have the lead, like 2-0 , was ridiculous I can't score either ( I feel like I can hit I just don't get any of them) but that's another story, and computer grounds it to first, Howard picks it up I go to throw to my pitcher who is coming to cover (remind me to never do that again) and Howard just lofts it up, pitcher sits there, guy is safe, next guy hits a double, then Beltran blasts a homer and I lose my lead...

I dont mind losing to a few comebacks here and there but this stuff is getting ridiculous to the point I think it has to be something in the coding because this CANT possibly happen just when I'm up in the late innings or like 6th inning.... it's like game will be 0-0 or 1-1 forever and then when i finally grab a lead the computer can't handle it and has ridiculous things happen to take the lead back..

    is this just me??

Work the counts more when you are pitching. I haven't seen too many problems involving any comeback AI in this years game.

I haven't seen comback AI in this game but I am not using default All Star sliders. I use BF Joe's sliders with a few extra tweaks. This game can be tough if you're using the All Star default, heck this game is tough on default Pro.

I guess it is just me then. I do switch up speeds, work counts, switch locations, pitch in cold zones on 2 strike counts.... it's just when I get to the 9th with the lead or have like a 4 run lead that the computer just seems to hit homers that shouldn't be. It's not like I'm throwing meatballs or all strikes or not switching up my speeds/pitches, it's once I get the lead bulll**** starts happening. it really pisses me off but I guess it's just me, maybe I'm doing something subconsciously

Problem is I find Pro to be too easy but all star to be ridicuously difficult, especially against carlos lee as some said in the other thread

There seem to be certain players who are programmed to rake, period. I played a game against the Red Sox and purposely pitched Ortiz low and away when he came to the plate. Result: 2 HR's after 2 AB's.

Now realize that after the first HR, I intentionally pitched at least 12 inches outside the strikezone next time, yet he still took it opposite field. I haven't played enough games to say there's comeback code, but it does look like certain players have 'cheat code' programmed into their ratings on some level.

Re: Is it just me or does this game have ridiculous ...

I was actually going to make a post about this last night. IMO YES there is a comeback code. I don't know if it's as blatant as some games in the past, but after playing this game heavily over the last month I can definitely attest that there is some "keep it close" AI logic in place.

This happens in about 9 out of every 10 games I play, and it's truly becoming close to unbearable. Take last night for instance, I was up 5 to 2 in the 6th facing the Reds... 2 outs and I walk Votto, my starter Gallardo was at about 60%, up comes Alex Gonzalez who proceeds to take a 96 gesture 2 seam fastball off the plate for an opposite field HR (hey at least he didn't pull it ala 2k7). Next guy comes up, Juan Castro, he works the count 2-2 after falling behind 0-2, mashes a slider for HR. Tie game. W..T..F.. this Juan F'n Castro and Alex Gonzalez for Christ's sake. Crap like this happens ALL THE TIME.

For the record I use bigfnjoe's sliders in my Brewers 'chise, and would be open to using different sliders, but I doubt this has anything to do with sliders. Especially since most of the time the cpu rallies back after my starter has pitched a gem of a game.

Yes there is definitely that as well. I understand why the game programmers would do this, but it is HORRIBLY implemented and comes off more as a 'cheat' than any thing else. It gets really aggravating when you have to CONSTANTLY walk guys like Teixera, Pujols, and Howard just to keep them from hitting HR's.

I've said it since 2K5: the culprit is the AI Skill slider. It's a flat-out cheat slider for the CPU. The higher it is, the more the CPU magically finds holes in your outfield, making it redundant to even shift your defense.

I'm actually running a test right now. I've taken a CPU team and lowered hitters' contact ratings to about 40%, and also lowered doubles, triples and hr ratings to 0. With the AI Contact slider at 100, and AI Skill slider and AI Power sliders at 0. the CPU hits all ground balls, and the occasional short bloop. I played about 10 innings that way, and all the CPU got were two bloop hits and a groundball past my SS.

About ten minutes ago I bumped the AI Skill slider up to 100. Guess what? Six hits in a row for the CPU, most of them gappers that went to the wall for doubles and triples. Again, this is with their contact ratings = to the pitchers in the game, plus ZERO for power, doubles or triples ratings.

What is your AI Power slider and AI skill slider at?

I've turned power down to 10 for the AI and it seems to help alot.

Doesn't anyone use the Red Sox in here? I think Hideki Okajima has a "get rocked everytime" code. Someone on the developer squad must not like him too much. Everytime i bring him in, he "gets rocked." I NEVER throw meatballs and ALWAYS change location the pitch selection. Somehow guys like Edgar Renterria or any other non-home run threat guys always take a pitched down and away on the paint for a homer. It's ridiculous how much BS i go through with that.

With the cocky X2 WS Champs Red Sox plus all the NE Patriots stuff, EVERYONE hates Boston now. It's the new *****-flavor of the month.

For me it was Mike Timlin, Manny Delcarmen, and Kyle Snyder. Okajima's given up his share of runs too, but Delcarmen got sent down and Timlin and his 15 ERA are in Seattle.

hmm, looks like I'm gonna start dropping the AI Skill Slider.

From your experience, would you say it's a good idea to drop it to 0 off the bat from default All-Star sliders?

Or do you think the CPU will suffer too much without some kind of Skill?
