Sales of 2k8 compared to 2k7

    Data obtained from www.vgchartz.com

    MLB 2k7 sales (360):
    Week 1: 135,716
    Week 2: 57,170
    Week 3: 45,653
    Week 4: 36,456
    Total: 274,995

    MLB 2k8 sales (360):
    Week 1: 110,860
    Week 2: 60,887
    Week 3: 35,545
    Week 4: 25,801
    Total: 233,093

    Diffrence: -41,902

Over the first four weeks from release, 2k8, despite having far more gameplay wise, has sold over 40 thousand fewer units than 2k7 did last year.

Few people here feel 2k8 is worse than 2k7, but all the bugs, lack of demo, and lack of decent PR seem to be taking a toll on sales.

Baseball games never tend to sell well, and over the past year, 2k has lost almost 1/6 of their fan base. I hope they can take a hint...

Last year, The Show was a half assed game. Obviously, it has had less effect on sales numbers then I would've thought.

But I just cant see any PS3 owner choosing 2k8 over The Show this year.

and nope, don't have it, never played, I love 2k8.

The number of PS3 owners since last year has increased by millions. And of course baseball gamers - the most intelligent sports gamers on the planet - who own a PS3, will look at picking up The Show, rather than 2K8.

Taking the past 3-year history of the two games into consideration; looking at all the info, screens and vids leading up to both games' release; reading the user and site reviews... it's a no-brainer that most PS3 owners will purchase The Show 08 over MLB 2K8.

I own both systems, and both games. I cannot bring myself to play 2K this year, which is sad. I LOVED this game last year.

I should note, i posted only the 360 sales numbers. I did this to show the comparison ONLY with last years game, minus competition from the show. (BTW, the PS3 sales are downright ugly).

Keep in mind, the number of 360 owners has grown alot over the past year, so decreasing sales is probably a warning light for 2k. I personally hope they get the message.

I would love to discuss away however, in the past I have been banned for giving my opinion on the negative aspects of the game. I suggest closing this thread because any negative talk about this game results in being flamed then called a liar then then being banned for responding to that...then being given an extra week ban for questioning the ban. Its best that this thread be closed immediately to avoid problems.

I will just simply say that the poor sales are not on accident. Continued poor quality of the game, poor game reviews, bugs, poor game design combined with a cheaper ps3 and a better Show have created a perfect storm for 2K. I hope that this comment doestn lead to me being flamed or being banned or warned. If I am offending anyone with that I apologize in advance for giving an opinion that is hard to hear.

i dont think theres anything wrong with your comments... to be honest, you are dead on as far as the game being not what we expected.. i dont think you would get banned here for your comments...definitely on the 2k forums though.. you would be on "vacation" HA

The Show was released well into May/June for the PS3 this year. Thus, the difference in sales (I bet the biggest drop off is PS3 owners).

Well if my math is right....if they sell the copies wholesale to the merchant for $40 that would be a -$1.68m difference in sales.

Sorry man, it appears you got a red card on that. I don't know why, but it appears someone did take offense to your comments.

You missed the more recent post where he said this was Xbox only numbers.

The fact that the Xbox numbers took this big of a hit should send warning signals, considering there are more Xbox owners than there were a year ago.

I'm a sucker and bought both 2K7 and 2K8 (both on sale the third week of release). But because of my negative experience, I've easily swayed 5 or 6 people from buying the game each year. Consider every unhappy customer sways 2-3 people not to buy the game, that's what makes the difference between a hit and a flop. I'm glad to see their sales numbers going down.

I know most of the mods on the 2k forums and as long as your not a ****** or start the same kind of thread thats already on the front page 3 times in a row, you wont be banned, or go on vacation. Over here, you have to watch more what you say then on the 2k forums thats for damned sure.

How much did 2k pay for the exclusive baseball license again?

I bet if you do the math with these sales numbers, they are in a world of financial hurt.
