    Effectiveness ring

After playing so many games of 2k8, I am a bit embarrased to have to ask.

I know that the outer grey ring is the "effectiveness" zone and that the second gesture should begin while in this zone. Question is, should I be trying to begin that gesture when right at the beginning of that zone or when it reaches the outer limit?

My thought was the further toward the outside, the more effort/effectiveness you put on the pitch and the more it fatigues the pitcher. My beef with this theory, if true, is that I find in the 5th/6th inning, when my pitcher is fatigued around 40% stamina and his grey area is a thin area on the outer loop, that even if I am in that zone and hit the green circle exactly right, he gets absolutely tattooed!

Now shame on me for leaving him that long, but with max effort and perfect release he shouldn't get lit up. It has happened in like four straight games. So bad I actually quit the game and replayed it cause it got so bad. If I recall right, 2-2 game into top 6th. 2 hits each team. 38% stamina. And an offensive explosion of 13 runs! He had 10 k's in those 5 innings and boom, BP central.

If I am misunderstanding this mechanic please straighten me out. I suppose I will have to begin removing my guys a bit sooner, but it sucks to be in such control to have it disappear like that.

Obviously as the game goes on your pitcher will get tired. When your pitching in the earlier innings try to not always use all of the effectiveness. Early in counts I'll take some off on fastballs and changeups. If you gotta pitcher throwing curves then, you can definetly take some effectiveness off your pitchers, just make sure your hitting your spots. I guess I'm telling you to mix up the speed of your pitches throughout the game. It works for me.

This doesn't answer your question completely, but the game also has pitchers tire a little faster than they should.

The game's default settings don't account for a user or copmuter controlled pitcher throwing a lot of balls. So, pitchers will start to tire quite a bit at or around 60 to 65 pitches.

So, if you throw a lot of "waste" pitches (or are a very patient hitter), starter's tire about an inning or so before they really should. Try bumping up the stamina slider 10 clicks from default and you should see fatigue set in at the right time.

As for the effectiveness meter, I go to the max pretty much every pitch. I've never been hit hard in situations where I thought I shouldn't have.

Closer to the outside edge is more effective. You want to pass into the white zone if you don't you most likely get a meatball. If you hold it all the way it will flash and come back on its own at a very fast rate. I usually try for the center between the inner and outer portion of the white ring. I believe the closer to the outer is adding more though , not just barely reaching the ring.

As the pitcher tires the space between the two rings gets smaller so hitting the middle of the zone gets harder simulating getting tired. Eventually it will be very difficult to hit the tiny white section and you will toss meatballs and get rocked.

Very high control pitchers have large white areas , horrible wild pitchers have much smaller area making it harder to have control.

        Its a great system IMO.

Don't get me wrong I love this new system, my complaint is that as my pitcher gets tired and the area for effectiveness shrinks, it seems as though he really gets hammered. Now if I am in that smaller effectivenss area, aren't I puttingn near max effectiveness making his pitches harder to hit? I know location suffers because the green area also shrinks and not hitting that makes you a bit more wild. But jeez, pitching a gem and still hitting high effectiveness and green but still all of a sudden gettin smoked really bites!

Location and speed I always vary, and I am one of those guys that throws a lot of pitches out of the zone to try to get the cpu to swing, so my working hitters is not the problem. Just seems the same time of the game, no matter who is on the mound. 6th inn, 7th inn, rock central.

Effectiveness has no effect on stamina, pitch speed, or pitch break.
