What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
I love franchise mode and it is probably my favorite part of this game. Yet I find myself flip flopping from whether or not to run a chise in which I am a GM and make trades to better my team or whether I should keep my hometown team and keep the team rosters exactly how it is in real life and play teams with their exact rosters. Idk which I enjoy more.

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
I've tried to stray away from my team (the Cubs) several times, but I never seem to play with the same intensity. So, I play with the Cubs. I'm in June right now, and it's basically the same team as real life.
I've made two moves:
Traded Jason Marquis to Colorado for Taylor Buchholz
Signed Kenny Lofton
I traded Marquis because he was 1-5 with an ERA over 4.00. I demoted him first, but his morale went way down so I traded him. The Lofton signing came within the last few games. Felix Pie was batting .215 and I wanted a true leadoff hitter, so signing Lofton seemed logical.
I try to keep it as close to what I think the real Cubs would do as possible. I won't do anything major at the deadline, but I may go after Brian Roberts if I can put a fair deal together.Comment

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
To me, keeping up with the current season doesn't make any sense. Unless your season mirrors the current season to a T, the moves made in real life might not fit your franchise.
Take the A's for example....right now they are tied for the division lead and if that holds true, they may be in the market to make some moves later in the year...however, in the game, they may be in last place and it would make no sense at all to possibly trade some young talent for a veteran.Comment

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
I can't decide about this either. Sometimes I just want to play with my hometown Brewers. But I always loved the idea of pretending to be a real GM and signing with a random team. Then try to build them and take other jobs in the future. Seems like a lot of fun but I never seem to stay with it. What do you guys think?I WOULD TRADE EVERY GAME I OWN JUST TO HAVE A PERFECT MADDEN.....Comment

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
I have to use my Phillies, and try to create a Philly dynasty (finally) but I also control the Orioles... The O's are a blast to try and revamp...I've had a firesale of the whole roster trading all the following players: Mora, Roberts, Payton, Trachsel, Hernandez, Huff, Baez, Millar, and Walker.
I've now stock-piled a lot of young arms, and have some guys in AA and AAA ready to make impact when I decide to bring them up.
The problem however is this...If I chose to play games w/ the Orioles franchise then they will not count as my profile is locked in to the Philly franchise I'm controlling.
That's what sucks about controlling multiple teams, and it really will affect your decision of what kind of franchise you want to do.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
Since I play every game, I don't have time to play multiple seasons of baseball. Thus I play one full season with my Tigers. 162 games (plus playoffs, hopefully) is actually right about perfect with respect to how long I'll usually play a sports title anyway, so it works out.I am become death
Do not underestimate my apathy

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
Personally, I enjoy making moves in my franchise. In my first season with my Phillies, I basically had the same exact roster as they do now, but I finished in third place. Not good.
So, in the offseason I signed Ben Sheets to a five year, $100 million contract; Livan Hernandez to a two year, $10 million deal; locked up Matt Belisle to a three-year, $9 million deal; and signed Alex Rios to a five-year, $63 million pact. The Rios deal was a necessity as I had traded Pat Burrell to the Indians for Joe Borowski during my first season.
I also added solid bench players in Mike Sweeney and D'Angelo Jimenez. I got rid of bums So Taguchi and Wes Helms.
Additionally, I bolstered my bullpen with the mid-season acquisition of Kyle Farnsworth (in exchange for slumping Joe Borowski and a minor league player).
Further, I groomed prospect Jason Jaramillo into a fine No. 1 catcher.
Here's what my lineup looks like in season 2.
SS Jimmy Rollins
CF Shane Victorino
2B Chase Utley
1B Ryan Howard
LF Alex Rios
C Jason Jaramillio
RF Geoff Jenkins/Jayson Werth
3B Pedros Feliz
BENCH
1B Mark Sweeney
SS/2B D'Angelo Jimenez
C Chris Coste
OF Ryan Spliborghs (acquired for minor league pitcher Fabio Castro in season 2)
OF Jayson Werth/Geoff Jenkins
3B Greg Dobbs
ROTATION
LP Cole Hamels
RP Ben Sheets
RP Brett Myers
RP Livan Hernandez
RP Matt Belisle
BULLPEN
C Brad Lidge
SU Kyle Farnsworth
MR J.C. Romero
MR Ryan Madson
MR Clay Condrey
LR Scott Mathieson
Needless to say, I've had success with adjusted slider difficulty in my second season. It might look like an All-Star roster with the additions of Sheets and Rios, but I did it out of necessity. I knew I'd get canned if I didn't make a big splash in free agency after my first season.

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
I try to keep it real. I usually play as the Indians .. I've tried other teams but get bored quickly since I don't care as much I guess. I only make trades that the CPU accepts .. I'll never force one just to stack my team. It seems pretty tough to aquire a good player in a trade in 2K8 .. you definitely have to give up someone good to get someone good. I'll also sign a FA or two in areas of need.
I don't play all the games ... usually just games where I'm facing a good pitcher. I'll sim most games where the starting opposing pitcher has an ERA of 4.00+
Sometimes I feel like playing those, though, just to smack around the CPU. So I'll sim a game against an ace pitcher, and play the scrub instead for a change of pace.Comment

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
I actually had a really good idea today. I manage each game during the regular season and intervene when the game promps me too. I get a feeling that I'm impacting every game but an entire series only takes me about half an hour. Made it through 6 games of my Brewers chise in the hour before I went to work. Loving it!!!I WOULD TRADE EVERY GAME I OWN JUST TO HAVE A PERFECT MADDEN.....Comment

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
This is a really tough question..ive thought about it a lot. First off I like to play every game, but like the idea of multiple seasons so i go with the 40 game season. I like the idea of a fantasy draft, and love picking my own squad, but hate having no idea who im playing. So i use real rosters, i like to make moves and in the past have taken the worst team in the game (this year pitt.) and making moves and turning them into a winner. This year however im playing on allstar and get killed with the pirates. So i decided to be the mets. I know theyre a great team, but theyre a blast to play with and figure if i can lead them to a championship then maybe ill pick a weaker team or play in legend iunno. At this point i havent made any moves beyond some callups send downs. I feel like if i could make trades and be a great team like the mets, it would just be too easy. Im sure that at a logical time (deadline if im in contention) ill make a realistic move (possibly trade for a bench player) but i wont do anything drastic and not realistic like trading alou, even though i dont like him as a player on the game.Comment

Re: What kind of franchise do you prefer, and why?
well this is how my 2k8 franchise has been going. I have been playing with my hometown Mets, and keeping my rosters as well as the CPU exact to the mlb. I keep injuries off and try to keep it as real as possible. After about 25 games ( Im currently 13-11) I realize that it is not as fun keeping realistic teams utill a big trade happens later in the year. So I save that franchise and put it aside till later.
Today, I started one with the Tampa Bay Rays. A team where I can freely make moves and other CPU teams can make as many acquisitions as they see fit. I like the team and the projectable future with the young talent but I have 1 problem. I can't hit. I'm 0-3 with a team ERA of 3.00 I just havent hit well (BFJ's sliders which I used with the mets and hit very well). So my problem is idk how fun a team will be that I struggle with. I am still debating which franchise is more fun to run and my debate with myself will continue for probably most of this baseball season.Comment

Ohka moved to the 5th starter role (Kendrick is in a LR role right now).
Since I also control the O's I traded away practically the whole team to get way down below budget. Since I was hitting .233 w/ Coste, and a whopping .178 w/ Ruiz I made a trade for Baltimore's Ramon Hernandez.
The O's got Jayson Werth, Carlos Ruiz, and Kris Benson. I got Ramon Hernandez. Since I didn't need Benson on the O's w/ a $4 mil contract I released him, and then signed him again w/ the Phillies for a $600K contract (which is where his contract should've been in the 1st place). I also had to release or trade Jay Gibbons from the O's. Since the O's released him in real life I did the same, but figured the Phils could use his bat so I signed him as a Phillie.
