Simple. How many times in real baseball does a pitcher mess up on a breaking pitch and throw a fastball? Never.

I could handle a "meatball" that was a hanging curve or a down the middle changeup .... but not a fastball unless that's the pitch I was trying to throw.

I don;t think anyone is against a meatball if you mess up, just that the meatball is often a completely different pitch than what you were attempting to throw.

Batters don't botch a bunt attempt and execute a power swing.

One thing I have learned about this game over the last two months. It doesn't matter what sliders, how careful you pitch, the CPU is going to crush HR's. The good hitters just kill you in this game. I have TCP set at 50 on the sliders and somehow I pitch a meatball and it's a home run. For example, there have been times that I have pull back on the stick for a fastball and the meter doesn't move just turns red and 1 second later a 500 FT homerun and cut fastballs and 2 seamers are the worst. I am not going to complain that the game sucks but the programming has some problems. Maybe next year the developes will get the TCP worked out.

See, I don't like the whole idea period. To me, a completely botched pitch should have the same, if not a higher, chance of ending up outside of the strike zone instead of right down the middle. If you try and over throw a curveball down and away, chances are it will end up in the dirt not hanging over the plate. Sometimes, you might hang it as well, but more often than not the pitch will end up out of the zone.

I wouldn't mind if a messed up pitch ended up in random spots, but for it to end up over the plate more often than not is not realistic.

If miss the pitch because you were late releasing the controller, then your pitcher should be late releasing the ball and throw it in the dirt. If you are early, he should release it early and the ball should be up in the zone.

I also think that if you are a righty and you throw a curveball and you go slightly past the release point, the pitch should end up a little bit outside of your target and if you release it slightly before the release point, than you shoud miss slightly inside.

These four misses should determine where you miss the pitch at. You shouldn't let go too late and hang a pitch, it doesn't make sense.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this post. Awesome breakdown. Something that 2k developers should heed for the next installment.
