Rubber-band AI Logic one of the worst I've ever seen in 2K8...

Don't get me wrong, I love this game just as much as previous iterations, but I've noticed that this year's game takes Rubber-band AI logic to a whole 'nother level. It's almost as if Kush knew the game's AI wasn't strong enought to put up a consistent challenge to the hardcore gamers so they intentionally threw in the rubber-band logic to make things interesting. Now before some of you say I suck, let me say that this is NOT just for the computer. I find myself making asinine comebacks as well. Just last night I was playing Boston in my Yankees franchise. I started Pettitte against Matsuzaka. Needless to say, through 4 innings, Pettitte got absolutely shelled and I was down 8-0. I figured the game was over, but I kept playing. Lo' and behold, by the time the bottom of the 7th rolled around, I was up 9-8, thanks in part to 4 homers. But this is the beauty of AI catch-up logic. I scored JUST enough runs to take the lead by 1. Top of the 8th I bring in Joba and he calmly gives up 2 runs to cough up the lead. They bring in Okajima (I will say this, the AI is good when it comes to pitcher substitutions) and Papelbon to close the door. By far one of the dumbest games I've ever played. I didn't feel accomplished by scoring those runs to get back in it because it felt . . . scripted, almost as if the cpu wanted it to happen to make things interesting and that is not baseball. Anyway, anyone else experience the rubber-band logic like this in this year's game?

I haven't seen it so much that I notice it. I may have had a game or two like you explained, but in such a small dose, I would argue that it's just baseball. Sometimes large leads are overcome. Sometimes the Dodgers hit 4 HR's in a row to win a game.

I've kind of put this game on hold for GTA, but if this is something that is happening more than once ever 30 or 40 games, then you are probably right.

Personally, I wouldn't doubt at all that 2K would add some stupid logic like this. Just look at Meatballs and the Batters Eye.

I kinda know what the OP is saying although I don't own the game. There's a difference in knowing that you scraped and hustled to get back in a game and knowing that you could have walked up to the plate, turned your head and just start swinging away at anything and you would have caught up.

With this game, although I like it a lot, i feel the influence of the AI a little too often. Three examples come to mind:
        1. CPU-team hits balls often in the gaps, gaps seem to be miles wide. On the other hand, human batting has AI fielder's plugging all the gaps.
        2. This issue is really illustrated when CPU hitters consistently hit balls over my outfielder's head when by-default they should be playing deep. Auto-adjusting fielder positions doesn't work when the AI says it's going to be a hit.
        3. On the other hand, when I bat, CPU fielder's are in the wrong place at the correct time, thus they consistently take hits away. Outfielder's are playing shallow for power hitters (i.e. Derek Lee, Ramirez, Soriano) so amazingly they are in position for a blooper. Another example is watching Ortiz doing a headfirst dive to his right in the middle of the base path when Beckett is pitching to a left handed batter. It's like a big-shift is performed on Fukadome.
It would be interesting to see how the AI fielders are lined up before each pitch. I would be able see when the AI 'magic' begins.
