Re: Did 2k transfer MLB '09 development to Visual Concepts?
This is sad news.
I understand that putting a game together requires a full "team." That said, Brinkman as front and center with the MVP series for four years. And each year showed marked improvement than the last.
As for the 2K series, his guidance led to a much prettier product as well as a title that showed signs of playing a much better game of baseball. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess.
In the last four months, the 2K team has lost two vital components. First, KushGamer left. If I remember correctly, he was responsible for the game's hitting engine. Now the senior producer is gone.
People don't walk away from jobs they love and that treat them well. I only hope Kush puts together a solid team for next year.Comment

Re: Did 2k transfer MLB '09 development to Visual Concepts?
Well, "real life" considerations do come into play. One of the reasons that Ben left EAC in the first place is because he and his wife are native Californians. And I think KushGamer left for NYC, and that's where he's from, right? I'm a Vancouverite, lived here all my life. If the game I was working on packed its bags for Edmonton, or Toronto, or LA, I'd certainly think twice before following, even if it was a game I enjoyed working on.Last edited by DrJones; 05-24-2008, 01:49 PM.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. If somehow MLB2K9 gets moved to the VC studio, that would be tremendous!! These guys have already made the best Football and Basketball games on the planet. I am certain that they would do the same for Hockey and Baseball.

This is good news. Hopefully this will steer the franchise in the right direction. I was very dissapointed with MLB 2K8. I was hoping for so much more. The Show 08 is much better in so many ways. Their getting closer to video game baseball perfection. 2K has a long way to go...Comment

... so Zindagi Games was formed out of former Kush employees and the rest now joined VC!?
Looks like that the NHL and MLB teams lost more than just 2 guys.Comment

Re: Did 2k transfer MLB '09 development to Visual Concepts?
Rest assured, there WILL be a 360 baseball game next spring. But it is not clear (to me, at least) who inside TakeTwo is making it. Or what the grand plan is.
I can't imagine we will see a game from scratch with this many changes. But a shudder to think at what the team will do with the current engine. If we have to go through more hokey add-ons like the "Slam-Zone" from a few years ago, I will be sorely disappointed.
The NFL and MLB got it backwards. They awarded their exclusive licenses to companies who, at the time, were releasing the inferior product in their respective sports.Comment

I don't think any of this information is confidential, so allow me to fill in the gaps for you guys...
2K Los Angeles (formerly Kush Games) officially closed their doors around March 24, 2008. A good portion of the employees joined previous Kush Games owner, Umrao Mayer, at his newly formed company Zindagi Games (no public announcement as to what they are developing). Several other former 2KLA employees moved with the project up to the bay area and became a part of Visual Concepts. Still others decided to pursue other options (some stayed in the area and now work for other southern California studios and some moved out of state like kushgamer and myself).
This is just the way the industry works and things like this happen where companies start up, shut down, or are relocated/consolidated.Comment
