    Bad contracts

Why does the cpu constantly resign players that have very low rating to huge contracts

example washburn has contract for 9mill ratting of 73 yet they keep resigning him for the same amount?

i did some testing and you can remove his skill to almost 0 make hime 45 years old no potential 0 durability and he will only change his demands by a couple million dollars ??? he still wants 7mill!!

Ive seen really good players also sign dirt cheap just because their old contract was all ready cheap

I was going to go threw and try and manage the contracts my self since you extend contracts for other teams and this works for good players needing a pay raise but it doesnt work for over paid players anybody have any solutions?

I just dont want to see a ton of players getting 10mill more then they should while players nobody can afford sit in FA

seems like the added so many features to make this game better ability to control cpu teams (contracts trades) the no trading under 80, trade over ride ect you would really think they would add a contract overide !! maybe next year

    Re: Bad contracts

Maybe there is more to the salary amount that pure ratings. Maybe the computer takes the players stats (prior year, three year average, etc.) into account. What were his stats like the prior year?

The system they use is obviouslly defunct and needs a whole lot of TLC. Certain basic logic needs to created to take into account a lot of these situations.

Off the top of my head:
    1) Guys over the age of 35 or so generally should't be signed to long term contracts. There aren't a lot of teams that are willing to risk a long term deal on a guy as he goes into the twilight of his career.

2a) For younger players, Ratings and Potential should play a larger role in the determination of their salary than stats. Even the most talented rookies don't usually put up All Star caliber numbers in their first year or two.

2b) Veteran and established player's salary should be based more on stats than ratings. If pitcher is a 95 overall, but for some reason gets rocked every other time out and has mediocre stats, why would anyone pay top dollar for him?

    3) A younger player with similar stats/ratings should usually earn more than an aging veteran of the same caliber. I'm not talking about a guy that is 26 and another that is 29 as both are still in their prime. However, the contracts for say two guys (age 26 and age 36) should be different in long term deals.

      Re: Bad contracts

i agree and i know that baseball has kind of a weird salary situation with how much rookies get when drafted and how even good players when there young dont get that much due to arbitration that it can become almost an AI nightmare trying to get contracts done right just like there has never been a good trading AI in most sports games

the best game for contracts was the old allstar baseball game had verything from rule 5 drafts to waivers and arbitration, they should implement what they did or maybe even try and license OOTP baseball or baseball moguls contract trade, engine if not then give use a contract over ride and contract editor

easiest and cheapest would be the later
