Im having a little trouble laying off the borderline pitches though. I love the fielding. Just seems like i am more in control out there. Overall I just don't get all the negativity this game gets. Im not saying its the second coming or anything, and Im not saying its better than show, its just fun.

Just bought it for PS3
I was getting bored with the show so I decided to give this game another chance. I am having a blast with it. Yeah the framerate sometimes stutters, and all the other bad things, yada yada, But I think its just fun. To me the hitting feels very rewarding. I am tinkering with the sliders and I am getting a bunch of 5-3, 3-2 games.

Re: Just bought it for PS3
It is a fun, good little game.
The die-hards and super-sim gamers will find their share of flaws and rightfully so, but 2K8 plays a fun game of baseball. It is a very nice change of pace from The Show but does still need a lot of work.
The real highlights of the game to me are...
1) Signature styles - no matter the sport, 2K always nails their sig styles.
2) Accessory customizing - you can get life-like equipment for damn near every MLB player. Different colored batting gloves, arm sleeves, etc. While The Show's faces are much better, if you're looking at a player from any angle other than a close-up, 2K8's players are much more recognizable.
3) Controls. Fielding is great, the analog pitching is wonderful; everyone has a right to dislike it but people who say it is broken simply didn't spend enough time trying to master it. The hitting is ehh, as baa said the timing-only is too arcadish, I hope the cursor returns. But then again, no baseball game has a great hitting system, IMO."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Just bought it for PS3
I never thought it sucked or anything. For me it was just that 2K7 was pure crack - played over 300 games, hell, maybe 400. Then 2K8 hits and it doesn't look as good, doesn't run as good, the CPU never steals, and it's still virtually impossible to walk anyone (when pitching) even with the new system.
That said, though, I did manage to get in a good 75-100 games with 2K8. In that sense it wasn't a waste of money or "not fun." Like ehh said, it's definitely a "fun, good little game," just not what people (myself, at least) hoped it would be.
Glad you're enjoying.

While I think it pales in comparison to The Show, it certainly is fun and is a good alternative game to have fun with.Comment

Re: Just bought it for PS3
Do you guys think that you could play a realistic season with MLB 2k8? And how does it compare to MLB 2k7 for those who have played that? I saw the price dropped $20 and was thinking about giving it a chance since The Show on PSP just doesn't do it for me.Villanova Class of 2012

Re: Just bought it for PS3
I actually like it alot, I use SFGiants PBA allstar sliders and I think it plays a damn good game of baseball. I also think that the game isn't that much worse than 2k7 framerate wise. What system are you going to play on? I have it for the 360 and if you unplug the live when you play you have a smooth game.Comment

Re: Just bought it for PS3
I gave it a rent today and I've played 3 games on Pro. All 3 games I've used classic pitching because I don't understand total control pitching. I played the 1st with swing stick 2.0, and the other 2 with classic hitting. Overall, I thought the game was solid. I'm still getting used to things, especially hitting, as all I can do is either hit a solo homerun or hit an out. Out of 6 runs I've scored in 3 games, 5 were solo homeruns. I can't get many people on base. Of course, I'm playing default Pro so that may be a problem. I didn't really see any framerate problems, so that was nice.
Not sure if I'm willing to buy it yet, but its been a nice play so far. I'll give it some more games and see how sliders affect it and we'll see.Villanova Class of 2012

Yeah I hear you man. The Show gets a bit boring for me some times. So I put in 2k. It's a great game.MCRD October 29. Oh Rah!

Re: Just bought it for PS3
I also picked this up recently as I was getting bored with The Show. The reason? I'm a Florida boy, and in the days before the Rays and even the Marlins all we had was the Florida State League (Advanced A ball). I really wish the Show had A ball, but since it doesn't I'm going to play out a season with either the Dunedin Blue Jays or Clearwater Threshers in 2k8. No major league games, no AAA, and no AA, they will be simmed. Should be fun.Check out my large collection of NCAA Football 12 screen shots from my Ohio State and USF Dynasties!

Re: Just bought it for PS3
Glad you are enjoying it so far.
I really, really like 2K8 (I never played 2K7). Most of its problems are on the visual and presentation side of things; the baseball itself is pretty darn good.
As for using it to play a season, go for it. I'm 20-16 in my Red Sox franchise and find the results very realistic.Comment

I'm in the same boat. I like The Show on PSP, but the hitting seems to be off for me (I probably just suck). Seem to have more fun playing 2K8 on my 360 for whatever reason.Comment
