New to 360 / 2k8 - Patch Question

I am finally picking up a 360 this week along with NCAA '09, but I'm planning on getting MLB 2K8 as well. I'm obviously a little bit behind, but am curious as to this patch that I keep seeing in old threads and articles.

Is this a simple, free download through XBox Live?

yes, if your connected to xbox live, when you load up the game, before you get to the main menu, there will being a system messge saying there is an update.
