well thats not the problem in a way, i mean most all pitcher will have lengthy releases not quite like dice k though, but i mean i think its be hard to do from the stretch like one second your windup base hit your stretch, it would be hard to do but i think it'd be cool , like no meatballs just bad pitches not or i shall say rarely in good spots of the K-zone

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
Why do 2k insist on changing everything in this game every year? The pitching was one of the few things that worked last year minus the meatball pitch.Comment

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
im curious to see how it unfoils,
I think it should be a three step series.
With vc making the game and all there really good, but any who
Step 1. Move the left thumbstick to locate the pitch target not cursor, target, it should be squares like the 17 zones (9 in zone/ 7 out) like bottom image
Step 2. Select a pitch, and say you choose zone low and out strike via 11% (left grid) and you choose slider, this means your pitch will break into the zone you selected not start in the zone you select.
Step 3. Pull down the RS thumbstick, and let signature ani's come in to play, hold down thumbstick till release of pitch and let go at release. LIKE NBA 2k9 free throws ! Perfect timing gets it in the zone like a perfect pitch in that zone, slightly early - high in the selected zone maybe just a lil above it MAYBE no meatball like, Slighty late- lower in zone maybe more strategic to get late release for lower pitches. Bad releases- no meat balls just un hittable bad pitches like low dirt balls, high, chin music, wide out /inComment

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
Umm, what is the big deal about changing to the classic pitching if you don't like the new controls?
Also there really wasn't a big learning curve if you used the tutorial. At first I was lost and then I used the tutorial for about 10-15 minutes and figured out the system. Not unless 10-15 minutes is a huge learning curve.Comment

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
I don't see what all of the fuss about it being complicated is about. The little arrow icons are pretty self explanatory of what you need to do with the controller. Each pitch has exactly two directions.
Press direction/movement 1
Hold to desired power
Move to direction/movement 2
Hold to desired accuracy level
Let go
Fastball: Back - Hold - Forward - Hold - Let Go.
MVP Meter system:
Press button
Hold to desired power
Let Go
Press button at desired accuracy
It's not like your performing 20 punch combo's in some Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat game.
Regardless, Payoff pitching is still offered, which is basically metered pitching displayed differently. Instead of a meter running up and down or left to right it the circle grows from small to big and back. It's still:
Press Button
Hold to desired power
Let go
Press Button at desired accuracy level.Comment

What's the big deal with a small little learning curve. Hell you got to read to figure out what buttons are used for bunting, stealing, etc. Why should pitching be different? Pitching should be tough to master, it's very difficult to do in real life.

And didn't NHL 08, the sports game of the year last year, have tutorials?Comment

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
.
This tells me that the controls are fine, just need tuning. The pitching SYSTEM on the other hand, is in need of mucho work.

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
I think a lot less people would complain about the analog pitching if it wasn't so sensitive. It was poorly tuned and not any more representative of pitching than "button mashing" tha people gripe about. Plus, if I miss on a curveball it should hang, bounce, miss the zone etc. It SHOULD NOT be a BP fastball down the pipe.

Also, when the catcher goes to throw the ball back, the pitcher slides over to the right about an inch on my tv and is staring to the right of where the catcher is.
Not a big deal but when you see it after every pitch of every game you play, it just gets old.Comment

For some reason they were in love with the idea of the meatball and the system was in tune with that. I think it's more a problem in the developers philosohy than anything else. I think they system should be ultra sensitve as far as accuracy and pitch effectiveness goes...this would lead to more walks, higher pitch counts and a more meaningful pitching system. But like you said, not in the sense, that a little miss means a BP fastball.
Ideally for me the miss of the pitch would be based strictly on how you missed with your directions and nothing would be random.
-Late with your release of the stick: Late release point-ball is lower than aim.
-Early with your release of the stick: Early release point-ball is higher than aim
-Miss left (counter clockwise) with location of stick: Pitch misses left of aim.
-Miss right (clockwise) with location of stick: Pitch misses left of aim.
"Meatballs" or "Mistakes" would happen because you aimed down and away and let go too soon (making pitch higher) and to the right of location (making your pitch miss to the right). And the pitch would still be the pitch you chose to throw not a fastball instead of a curveball.
I also think you should choose your pitch before you throw it. This would eliminate "throwing" a curveball and ending up throwing a fastball. Then if you really messed up the pitch, it would just be a 68MPH spinner, which is more realistic, IMO.Comment

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
The meat pitch has been in the game since 2K5. If you missed using zone pitching, it always resulted in a pitch down the middle, even if you aimed two feet off the plate. IMO, it's a coded programming issue with the 2K series. I don't know how this stuff works, but I would guess it would require a major rewriting of the game code to change it, and I don't see that happening.Comment

Re: New Pitching Controls Again!
That's a shame. First preview I read that says there's a meatball pitch in it automatically pushes this game to the side. I won't play it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob NeyerComment
