On the one hand, we know The Show will be good based on the media released already. 2K9 hasn't shown us anything... Well, accept that commercial that doesn't even have a single screenshot in it. We know nothing of 2K9 right now, which is a bad way to sell games.

Until 2K fixes the frame rate issues on the PS3 it a one horse race. And right now that horse looks like Man O'War. The Show was great last year and looks to be even better in 09.
      NFL:Packers
      MLB:Reds/Tigers
      NHL:Red Wings
      NCAA:Michigan Wolverines.
      F-1: Ferrari.

It's been a while OS. Hope all are doing well!

Any body can say this, The Show could ship with this massive framrate problem. Even a critical coding error screw up things with in the game. I love the show it is getting my 60 $ no doubt. To me I'm still etchy about some stuff, I see no change besides the lighting/shading progressive lighting. Everything else looks the same. The Shows franchise depth looks phenomenal but still A lot right now is left very untold for both titles this year.

Most people ask these questions wondering if they should buy a PS3 just to be able to play the Show.

You should get the Show '09.

Well 2k8 is horrid! The gameplay sucks and is incredibly glitchy, the modes suck, the graphics are horrible! I have and hdtv and Mlb 08 The Show almost looks like real life at 720p while 2k8 looks like a ps2 game.

Without any info on MLB 2K9 it is hard to reach a final decision as of right now. Last year the show '08 was a better game than MLB 2K8. Who knows what '09 entails. MLB 2K9 is being produced by Visual Concepts (the makers of the NFL 2K series) who have a very good track record. I would just like to see 2K9 be competitive this year.

They know they lost the baseball sim battle last year to the show and they need to win back the confidence of alot of customers. I have been a loyal 2k supporter for a while and I will buy 2k9 most likely this year because frankly, i cant drop 500 bucks to get a ps3. All im trying to say is that it worries me that we arent seeing anything because maybe it is a sign that things are not good and they are not confident in their product.

Bingo I cant believe this thread even exists... no offense to the original poster, but a little research and its blatently clear whats the safe choice here. If 2k9 suprises and does well it STILL wont be the show, not yet, maybe in a few years theyll have a shot.

So yeah get the show 09 its a no brainer its like asking would you like to have Pujols or Omar Vizquel and they are both the same price hmm tough choice.... lol

Personally, I think The Show is light years better, but that's not really a knock on 2K because I think that The Show is on the verge of being the greatest baseball game, ever. The main issues I had with 2K where that hitting was too hard (that's probably an issue with me more than anything, but it still frustrated me) and lack of issuing walks. I do think that if 2K can refine things such as pitcher control and improve franchise, it will be a solid game. And get rid of the meatball. But if I have to hear about framerates one more time, I'm going to stick a gun in my mouth.
A screaming comes across the sky...

It could very well have a fundemental problem. But from what I see right now, it looks like The Show is expanding its depth while 2K9 is getting even more shallow than before. It's turning into a game for the casual gamer.

Using Crash's Pujols/Visquel analogy, let's apply that logic to another example: Who knows what will entail, and which of those two players is going to hit .330 with 35-40 HR's this coming season?

In other words, maybe we really do know after all.

Company A builds a product and improves upon it every year, listens and responds to consumer feedback, spends the time and effort to minimize flaws, and actively markets the game.

Company B builds a product by tossing together a hodge-podge of different gimmicks each year, ignores customers and consumer complaints, puts minimal effort into quality assurance or testing, and seems disinterested in even marketing the very product they've spent all that time developing.

Company A's product ends up light years ahead and the best ever because of their overall effort. Company B, if they're interested in remaining in business, needs to be be knocked for their approach. Seriously knocked.

My thoughts exactly............the last two years, 2K didn't release their demos until the day of release or shortly after. Both times, they put the blame on MS for the delays which every truly honest human being now knows is a crock of ****!!! Last years game (2K8) was an unfinished embarrasment of a game and they knew it, hence the actual reason we didn't get a demo before release.

If this year's game follows the same formula and 2K starts the blame game again, I'll personally avoid it like the plaque

With that being said, MLB The Show 08 > MLB 2K8 by a long shot!!! Chances are good that this year's offerings will follow suit. I just can't see VC turning 2K baseball around in one year.

I do have one question, is Ben Brinkman still a part of making this game?? I was majorly disappointed in him last year, especially considering what he was able to do for the MVP series

Yeah sadly even if 2k9 got 100% better it still wouldnt even sniff Da Show 09.
I believe it will be more like NHL 2k was this year .
It seems they just build and knock down each year with no direction and focus on silly features.
I thought both NHL 2k8 and MLB 2k7 were great games to build off of but it never happened ?
2k needs to lose the gimmics and focus on good gameplay and graphics and bulid off that each year .

But the demo didn't have the framerate issues that the full 360 version had because the demo didn't have VIP profile problem which caused the framerate to suck in the full version. Once 2K8 was finally patched, it was a decent game, but they should've definitely fixed it BEFORE the release, instead of months later.
