lol...really? First a marketing deparment can't market because they're "busy fixing the game" and now a marketing department can't market a game because they are busy preparing for the reaction to it? No wonder they struggle...lol...busy group

Jokes aside, if you are that optimistic about the game, great. I wish I shared it (though I do have some optismism, believe it or not). I think it's spilling over into a poor defense of why there is no information though.

All your responses are coming off as defenses for their marketing "strategy." It's indefensible, IMO. No marketing team functions this way...even EA with Madden, who struggles to make a football playing football game (sound familiar), at least can market their garbage...lol. It's just bad...period.

Again, none of this really speaks to how the game itself will turn out. None of us know. We can make guesses based on what 2K8 was, but not much more than that. I'm also (again) not saying that this lack of info is an indication of a poor product. To me, it's just an indication that their marketing team is very bad (something I think many have felt for some time).

I will say though, at this point, I can understand why some people would be concerned. In any case, the 2K people (as you know) have said over on their forum that they'll have info up soon. We'll see.

This is just completly out of hands. How in the world does MLB2k9 expect to sell or even catch the peoples attention? I gave up on this game. Were a little over a month away and nothing still. Not even a lousy screen shot?
NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.

I never thought that I would agree with anything a Red Sox fan says and see things the same way, but I have to say I agree with Soxfan. Have little info on the game is an indication in a poor marketing team as opposed to a poor product. I too am trying to be somewhat optimistic about this year's rendition as was I last year. But, all this is feeling eerily similiar to last year and we all know how that game turned out. All in all, im going to reserve judgement on this game until I have a chance to play it.

What scares me the most? It could be the fact that I have only one choice on what game I can buy to get my baseball fix this year unless I win the lottery and buy a PS3. I guess that all I can ask for is a improvement over last year. If the game is bad I will go and get a copy of MVP for the xbox.

Lag free online is a MUST as far as I'm concerned.

I was at my brother-in-law's a few weeks back, and we busted out MLB 2k8 to kill some time...and we we wound up playing it all weekend. There's nothing quite like the pitcher vs hitter matchups against a real live person. If online doesn't work well this year, I will consider 2k9 to be a failure.

Agreed. 2k7 had the best online performance I've ever experienced in a baseball game. A patch to fix 2k8's online performance never materialized so I permanently benched it. Hopefully 2k9 can bring back one of the things 2k7 did exceptionally well.

It would also be nice to have 2k7 visuals with 60fps. I believe a baseball game HAS to run at 60fps due to the timing window required for hitting. I'm worried they will reduce it to 30fps in favor of better visuals.

The look on my wife's face when I tell her I just went out and bought a PS3.

Here are the Sega Sports / 2K baseball titles I have purchased, in order:

WSB (that turd put me off Sega for a long time and it was all High Heat from then on for me) WSB 2k3, MLB 2k4, MLB 2k5, MLB 2k5: WSE, MLB 2k6, MLB 2k7, MLB 2k8.

Sooo basically we're talking about someone who has given his support for the product every year with mixed results (some of those titles were great - WSB 2k3 for instance.) Meanwhile, EA put out a little title some time ago called "MVP Baseball 2005." This title still, after all these years, stands as the gold standard for baseball titles.

Unfortunately like many I have an Xbox 360. I love my Xbox 360 - it rocks! I love Live, I love the controller and I love the large library of titles to choose from. I love the constant improvements Microsoft is making to the console. I also love baseball games - more than any other game. I have zero faith in 2k. I've given them SO MUCH of my money... and more often than not I have come away disappointed. This cycle has ended. In order for me to buy another MLB title from 2K, I will need the fine folks that visit OS to tell me that it's worth my money. I'm sick of paid beta testing.
Well said my good man. Well said.

MVP 05 is still the single greatest baseball game ever created. Is it that hard for 2k to copy MVP and then upgrade the graphics engine??

The fact that they had me so excited for it last year that I bought it, played one game, then left to go buy a PS3 and The Show. I'll wait to buy or even rent 2K9 until I have read what people have to say about it on these boards. I have zero faith in what they say.

Re: What Frightens You the Most About MLB2k9?

Wow this thread has really grown. Well another rant, being today is the Jan 22nd of Jan and absolutely no-word on FPS, Commentary, Graphics, or online = Failure for me already.

2k's Marketing is a Absoulte Joke... Their Logic of hyping a game is *** backwards and a mockery of advertising (especially to someone in the field). They had a blueprint which was MVP 2005 on how to make a baseball game, and all 2k needed to do was copy it since EA was benched and they couldnt do that right. My honest prediction is this game will be a failure and maybe next year we will get a game that will be desent. To bad by them i will be dry humping Sony's MLB Game by then.

Well I finally understand the name for 2k we got 2k's for games, MLB2k7 and 2k8 maybe they can change there name to 3k after this bomb.

Bobo, 2K's marketing chief (and until last year, lead programmer for Kush Games), takes exception to your comments.

I'm so non-hyped for this game which makes me sad. I generally like 2K's presentation and such but the actual core gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. I'm just hoping for the game to be fun and without much problems.

If I end up throwing full price money on this and see that it's just patchwork fixes for last year then i'll be very upset.

I also agree about 2K's marketing. Hell, I bet I could market this game better then them!

I have a feeling it's going to be a very decent game. Not 'The Show' decent, of course. But better than last year. And if it isn't, I've got a PS2 for MLB 09, so I'm set either way.
