Zone Hitting is not the default Hitting scheme.

I miss the days of out-of-box playability. By zone hitting not being the default hitting scheme, it makes me wonder if the feature is fully fleshed out.

Well, one of the hitting and pitching options has to be the default, out-of-the-box one. They can't all be, is what I'm saying. Guess we'll have to wait and see how well it works.

More info from 2K's board mod:

Let me clear it up. There are 3 ways to bat.

      1) Default – Time your swing with the RSTICK by pressing BACK then UP. In this mode, the LSTICK influences your hit (Left=Left, Right=Right, Up=Flyball, Down=Groundball)

      2) Zone Hitting - Time your swing with the RSTICK by pressing BACK then UP. In this mode the LSTICK moves the HITTING CURSOR that looks like a bat in order for you to hit the ball, you have to put the cursor in the same zone where the pitch is thrown. The zone hitting cursor also has a “sweet spot” where if the ball is lined up perfectly with that sweet spot, the player will get a boost to the hit.

Yeah it does...Power Pros is a fun little game, but when I play baseball sims, I don't like having a bunch of flashy junk on my screen.(strike zone, player names, ball trails, etc...)

I hope theres an option to make this little bat invisible.

Damn I'm an idiot...Option one is what I want!

For some reason I didn't understand option one when I first read it.

Re: Zone Hitting is not the default Hitting scheme.

I don't think Option 2 is like ASB at all, unless you're referring to ASB's zone hitting? Because their primary hitting option was cursor. And I bring this up because someone mentioned Power Pros.

Power Pros and ASB (default) used cursor hitting. The description above seems to indicate that it is zone hitting with a cursor.

you have to put the cursor in the same zone where the pitch is thrown

That's zone all the way. Pitch is low and away, I have to make sure my bat is low and away. In that way, I'm swinging the bat in the general area of the ball.

                      However,

The zone hitting cursor also has a “sweet spot” where if the ball is lined up perfectly with that sweet spot, the player will get a boost to the hit

That seems to indicate that with perfect bat placement, you'll hit the ball on the sweet spot of the bat.

Seems like an interesting approach to hitting if I'm reading the description correctly.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I really like Power Pro's hitting with the bat cursor. It also has thre sweet spot etc... I'm sort of excited about it.

Only problem I have with it is the power/contact toggling. It wouldn't be too bad if contact gave you a chance at popping one out (and with the correct sliders we can adjust it so that it's a contact-only kind of deal), but with Power Pros there is no chance unless you use power.

I also hope there's a way to hide the ball cursor for where the pitch is going to go, giving us a challenge if we find the cursor too easy.
