    Throwing Meter

Q: Did the fielding meter go back to the traditional MVP style where
accuracy and strength are factored into how long you hold the
button/stick? I actually liked last year's added innovation in which the angle at which you placed the right stick towards the direction of the base you wanted to throw to actually had an effect on the accuracy and direction of the throw.
A: Pretty much same as last year with a little bit cooler looking throw
    meter.

I don't see how this could be like last year (which i loved) Last year the meter was horizontal which you were able to make hi and low throws, how would that be possible this year seeing the meter is vertical

    Re: Throwing Meter

I guess i will answer my own question. I went back and played 2K8 the meters are different for the infield (horizontal) outfield (vertical) but for the vids i seen for 2K9 i didn't notice any tilt to the meters as was in 2K8. I guess we will find out soon enough or Steve can answer this in his opinions about the game

      Re: Throwing Meter

I was trying to figure out the throw meter as well. It does look similar to the one MVP had were it was in a fixed position. Also, that green section I assume would be the area for the most accurate throw. I was wondering why that section does move to different locations on the meter based on where the player is on the field? Meaning a throw from the outfield would have that green area further up the meter because it would take more effort to get a throw back to the infield as opposed to across the diamond. No?

personally i don't like the throwing meter system, it makes pitching too predictable from a pitcher's standpoint. i like the old High Heat style where you just aim and throw. it ain't no golf game, it shouldn't be some meter determining pitching.

Actually, the op is talking about the fielding throwing meter not the pitching one.

            Re: Throwing Meter

Last year if you were off on the direction of your throw, the meter would tilt to that angle and let you know visually that your throw was going to miss in that direction (if you were in centerfield throwing home, you want the controller to be at exactly 6 o clock, but if you had it at 7 o clock, you knew the throw was going to be off in that direction). Hopefully the same holds true and they just took out the visual representation of the miss (the meter tilting), which I guess I am Ok with (will at least potentially make for more offline throws).

If the direction is just random and is strictly tied to the timing of the meter (which in my mind should only be used for making high and low throws), then I would say the system took a step back.

                Re: Throwing Meter

I asked that question by the way, haha. After seeing countless vids now, it appears it is the basic meter system we've come to know in the MVP franchise. I absolutely LOVED the advancements 2K made with the throwing meter last year when it came to you having to make sure you angled the right stick towards the base properly or the throw would be off by that much.

It just appears 2K is focusing too much on "dumbing down" features and making it more accesible to the casual crowd instead of building off the great advancements they made feature-wise in last year's title. First they remove useful sliders, then collision detection btw players (it appears), and now they remove a fielding advancement that I thought made the fielding the best and most rewarding mechanic ever made in a baseball game.

                  Re: Throwing Meter

Maybe as with the pitching, you can go back to the 2k8 style of fielding with the harder/accuracy-based throwing meter? Or not.
