    Re: Thoughts on Cursor Hitting

no I'm asking zone hitting without a cursor. But i wanted to know if we could go back to classic button hitting but without the cursor. Does that make sense?

Steve said you can't have zone hitting without the cursor.

But you can have classic hitting without the cursor (just press a button to swing).

There's also standard swing stick hitting, and this year you can also use the left stick to influence your hits (up for fly balls, down for grounders, side to side directional hitting as well)

I think you can also use left stick influence with classic hitting as well, but that I'm not 100% sure of.

Yeah your last point was what I wanted to know. I just call it zone hitting i guess. LOL sorry for the confusion.

I'm lost about this "zone with a cursor" thing. So are you saying that the bat isn't free-roam, and instead just 'snaps' to each zone? Like say we wanted to hit an outside pitch as a lefty... we would push left and just watch the bat jump to the outside zone, instead of seamlessly flying over there?

          Me = lost.

Watch the latest vid Steve posted that demonstrates it. I don't think it snaps to a zone. Looks pretty much like free-roaming cursor hitting to me.

Did you watch the Renteria video? It looks like the cursor is free-roam. I've just assumed that if you get the bat into the right "zone," you're going to at least make contact (though poor). If you get the bat on the ball, it'll be decent contact. If you get it on the sweet spot or anywhere near it, you'll make good contact.

              That's my assumption, at least.

              Or, what jeffy said.

                Re: Thoughts on Cursor Hitting

Yeah, I just watched it. It's free-roam, not zone.

EDIT: Oh, I think I now understand what you mean by "zone," though. We'll see if that's how it is. I doubt it, though. I bet you just need to get a bit of the yellow glow on it at least.

I just wish the cursor wasn't so "busy" looking.

Me too. It definitely needs to be more transparent at least.

Again, as I presented earlier in the thread:

This was a Photoshop version of one that I wanted (this was an adjusted strike zone from the dreaded 2K7 strike zone as well), and it is faded appropriately as well. Basically, it does the same angle thing that this one does, which is fantastic. I think that is really the only idea that I had with it, but then I soon found out that Power Pros does that as well.

Oh well, I still like to think that they took into account what I had to say.

it does appear though that with this style of hitting it will add alot to high variety and steve already said without zone hitting there is a big variety, i mean think about it with a good pitcher on the mound going against you, you could have alot of pop ups and weak dribbles.(unlike the past) and hitting a home run should really be rewarding

                          Re: Thoughts on Cursor Hitting

Speaking of which, my least favorite part about their cursor is where their sweet spot is. Anyone that's played baseball can tell you it's not that far on the end of the bat, and it's off by a significant enough margin. No wonder all of the hits look as if they're off the end of the bat, even the good hits. It kind of makes that facet of the game look ugly.

                            Re: Thoughts on Cursor Hitting

you see it's a 2 edged sword I think with pure cursor hitting in this game:

one of the complaints of the game is that the pitches are too floaty so what will we do to make that better ? increase pitch speeds to near max (for people that want realistic looking pitches...right now a lincecum fastball looks like a wakefield changeup). Ok so after we raise pitch speed and get those pitches looking more real, I really don't think that this cursor hitting will work.

One it is too distracting and 2 it will be hard to line it up against pitches that will come in much faster. I think if you do play with default pitch speed this cursor hitting will work . But at higher pitch speeds zone hitting ( divided into 9 zones) would work much better IMO.

Imagine trying to deal with a nasty cut fastball with that virtual bat in your face. you're going to have to concentrate on 2 things while in real life aiming a bat doesn't work like that. it's too bad we can't turn off that cursor.....

anyways, we'll try with the demo and hopefully it works much better than I anticipate
