    Player Numbers

Ok i know some of yall are not really going to care if this is fixed or not but for the past several years that i have been buying baseball games they still havent gotten this right. It is very annoying to me that several players on your team can have the same number. I mean how hard could it be to fix. Madden, NCAA Football have got it down right why not this game?

    Re: Player Numbers

probably because when they do their rosters the MLB team sites don't have any numbers for the new players that have signed. The MLB sites are starting to update now but that may be past the 2k roster cut-off date.

i understand all that i just hope that when you are playing in franchise mode when you sign players or trade players that their numbers change if someone on the team already has that number. like they do in EA's ncaa football

That would also be nice if you couldn't wear retired numbers (like All Star Baseball), including 42.

          Re: Player Numbers

If this game has the same franchise engine as NBA 2K9, we could be in for something special...for example, I signed Lebron James to the Bulls in that title, and his #23 jersey number changed to #7 simply because it was a retired number. Now, I'm not saying this retired number issue or a fix to the "multiple player number" issue the TC mentioned will be included in MLB 2K9 (as jersey numbers overlapped in NHL 2K9, also developed by VC) but it'd be pretty awesome if they were. We'll just have to see come release day.

I have a love/hate relationship with this idea...lol. I like how it's done in The Show, actually. You technically can't wear retired numbers, but there is a back door glitch that allows you to do so(except for #42 which is always locked).

That's perfect for me as I refuse to wear any number but #23...so if I wanted to take the Cubs out of their misery, for example, it wouldn't be possible without the back door.

Anyway, I think something like this falls into the "it's a videogame" category for me personally. I like it in theory, just so long as it doesn't screw with my plans...lol.

As for duplicates on teams, yes...I 100% hope that's fixed

I'd love to see this issue fixed. It drives me nuts to play MLB 2K8 online and have 3 guys wearing 39. John Grabow, Brandon Moss and Tyler Yates. Of course in franchise this is easily fixable.

                  Re: Player Numbers

Sometimes I actually prefer the ability to have multiple players with the same number, such as when editting rosters. Say I want to recreate the 1995 Mariners, which I do with a lot of baseball games, and I am making a certain player, but I can't assign him the proper number because someone else already has it. Now I need to find which player that is, change his number to something else, and go back to the original player I was editting. Or sometimes with historical rosters, two players actually did wear the same number, just at different points in the season. I would rather have them both wearing the same number than having to chose an incorrect number. Having full range of numbers would eliminate this problem.

Of course, it would be nice to have an option when I am done that pops and and says "Player X and Player Y both have number 7, would you like to fix this or ignore it?" That would give the best of both worlds. In a custom franchise, I would never want two players with the same number.

This whole thing is not of a concern anymore due to the inclusion of Living Rosters.

What video have you seen where this hasn't been fixed? Please don't say the Mariners vs A's and Griffey still wearing #17 cause that was just Steve who signed him and didn't change his number.

no i was talking about the all star game and im not sure if they are all wearing their usual numbers for that game only. Im just worried it will happen in franchise like it has been for several years

well yeah the all star game is a different situation I guess it would be like teh pro bowl in the NFL players will wear duplicate numbers. As 4 the franchise I think it'll be like the NBA 2k series (i believe someone mentioned this before) VC usually does a good job with the numbers but we wont know until teh game comes out.
