Talking about Inside Edge in the Conference call thread, and I had this idea......
I have to admit I'm not sure why they even use it (IE). Last year, I downloaded all the Major League Pitch F/X data and analyzed it to help make sliders. All the info that IE has is also there in the Pitch F/X, maybe better even.
And not only is it a wealth of pitcher and batter tendencies, it's updated every day. Every day.
So that leads me to this. First, 2K should ditch the IE, there's nothing there that they can't get for free from the data that MLB provides.
Second, and this is the big one.....since Pitch F/X is updated daily, they could use it to constantly update each player's ratings/tendencies throughout the season. Incorporated into the "Living Rosters" this would make the ultimate in weekly updates IMO. Batters would change from week to week as they get hot or slump. Pitchers would have accurate MPH on their pitches and the way they pitch both to certain batters and in certain situations.
I'll be the first to admit that this would be a daunting task. After wading thru the mountain of data that Pitch F/X was last year, I have no desire to do it again this year for sliders (I'm just going to use last years data, I'm sure the Major Leagues haven't changed that much). But if 2K was to truly utilize this data and use it correctly, it could be used to help make the most realistic baseball game ever.
How do I patent this idea?
