Well I tried the demo & I liked what I saw. Yeah, graphics are a little weak, especially on the player faces but overall it is fun. It plays smooth which was a concern after last year so that worry is gone. Only thing left is to fix the CPU swinging at everything & all should be good for me to play this game!

game seems fun, but it feels slower than the show. Graphics are a bit jaggy and rough.Comment

Re: PS3 Demo
Sorry if this impression sounds like a comparison to the other game...but it is what it is:
Commentary: I really like the duo in the booth, they're new and refreshing and good. Miller and Morgan were stale and needed to go. I'm actually surprised 2k had enough sense to get rid of them.
Graphics: Kinda blah, not very crisp. Good enough though. They don't distract from the experience or anything like that.
Animations: Kinda herky jerky, almost like claymation or something. Not as bad as they used to be.
Pitching mechanics: Waaay better than last year. Not too complicated but in-depth enough to present a fun challenge and learning curve.
Hitting mechanic: Kinda fun. I like it more than I thought I would. I really feel like a hitter with the swing mechanic. But I hope they leave the option in for the button press.
Throwing mechanic: Reminds me of mvp 05. nuff said.
Sounds: Crowds sound good...ballpark has real good atmosphere. I wonder if ps3 users will have custom soundtracks this year.
Baserunning: simple, intuitive. I really like the responsiveness of the controls when leading a runner off the base.
presentation: Fielding cam changes persepctive depending on where ball is hit, which is cool. I still would also liek the option to have fixed fielding camera presets though (ie pole cam, broadcast cam, etc).
There were no action replays, but there were good cutaways to guys walking back to the dugout after being thrown out. The fact that they are cutaways and not cutscenses made the ballpark feel more lifelike.
The random camera angles showing the field are good too. I really love the pitching cam, it is awesome angle. Reminds me of bases loaded on NES.
Hopefully retail version will have lots off cool replays, stat overlays, etc.
Fun factor: Fun factor is there big time, so if they manage to get some classic teams and stadiums and HR derby and custom soundtracks in, I think I will pick this one up. We shall see.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

Re: PS3 Demo
I liked the announcers almost dead on ,players move pretty good and I like the throwing system .
I do wish they had a few button options availible and i could have had a better opinion but as it stands it wont even be a late season pickup .
I hope they tested the final game as the franchise is already needing a patch from what we hear

Re: PS3 Demo
If a PS3 owner told me they preferred 2K8 over the Show '08 I would have thought they were crazy. If someone tells me they like 2K9 over the Show '09 this year I can understand it. The demo was fun and I thought the graphics looked good other than some faces. I don't quite get the hate for the 2K graphics. They look next gen to me.Comment

Yeah I'm kinda in that boat, where The Show has far superior graphics and sound, I really like the analog controls and just something new from playing The Show all year.
It's going to be a tough choice, the one thing The Show does well is the little things and randomness in the games, i.e I can play a Franchise and have 11-1 blowouts and then have a 2-1 pitcher's fest the next game. I'm not sure how well 2k will do this. I may get The Show and rent 2k9.
This is from someone who purchased the PS3 just for the show last year.Comment

Re: PS3 Demo
MLB 2K IS a new graphics "engine." The graphics are completely new, which is likely why you can now have the real-time stuff without the game bogging down like crazy. If they would have tried that with the mess of work they had last year, even 30FPS would have been hard to stabalize at...lol.No doubt, MLB 2K needs a new graphics and physics engine. I couldn't even logically challenge you on that. Maybe Visual Concepts will create one soon, so they can have plenty of time to build on it this year for the release of MLB 2K10. Anyway, we're all kinda strayin' off topic here. I'm gonna shut my mouth now.
I think VC did a great job with getting the superficial aspects of the game mostly back on track. I still think they need major work on their animations overall (eliminating old, herky-jerky animations and ones that make no sense, and adding more variety).
Still, I'm impressed with their progress considering that they completely ovehauled the graphics. Not saying that will equal a worthy baseball title now, but the improvement is evident and it should be by next year at least, IMO.Comment

Re: PS3 Demo
It is the same graphics engine since the Xbox/PS2 days, they just added more "next-gen" content (i.e. crowd, resolution, textures, lighting). And it does bog down with the "real time stuff", you can clearly tell that most cut-a-ways are not 60FPS and are 30FPS.MLB 2K IS a new graphics "engine." They sacrificed a lot graphically with this engine to get it to run smooth in gameplay. And it shows.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 02-27-2009, 09:00 AM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: PS3 Demo
This game is much better than 2K8 by a lot.
I mean where did this game go wrong? 2K7 was definetely on the right track, the game looked amazing!
All they needed to do was add a few gameplay tweaks and score!
What went wrong in 2K8?
Definate awesome rebound this year for those guys.
Still not my choice this year but things are most definately looking good for 2K baseball.
I totally dig the fielding, the pitching is improved over last year IMO,
and the batting is also a bit more user friendly, although I couldnt get one ball out of the infield!
Graphics are still not as good as 2K7 but better than last year.
The real-time envirnoments are really good too.We play today, we win today, das it!-

Re: PS3 Demo
why do the shadows look terrible on the PS3 version? They are very jagged-looking shadows...way too many jagged line happening on the field as well when they pan the camera out....it is an improvement over 2K8 (but that's not that hard)....the series may be headed in the right direction, but it may be too late.Comment
