    The CORE Gameplay is GOOD...

Yesterday many people saw my post in the OXM Review Thread in which I blasted the game for seeming unfinished & unpolished. YES there are aspects of this game that are unfinished & unpolished. YES the AI Hitters are very aggressive @ the plate. YES IE seems somewhat over-programmed in some areas & still flawed in other areas.

Let me say in reference to the CORE GAME PLAY, this game is good between the lines. OTB the game is all over the place. Once you tweak some sliders, specifically the Pitching & Hitting Sliders the Game Play begins to shine.

I know many will say "OTB games should already be playing well" I will say that YES it should be a standard, unfortunately that's not the case, especially for this franchise over the years.

My biggest gripe around GAME PLAY is the suspect outfield play that happens sometimes. The super fielding infielders & the AI Hitter's being a little too aggressive @ the plate.

In reference to trying to tweak the AI Hitting Aggression what I have seen is if you turn OFF the Catcher's Suggestion Setting & go on your own Pitching Instincts (mixing it up, setting up hitter's by going outside the strike's during an AB) you will see the AI begin to take strikes a little more & get fooled a little more. Not to the point that I would like, but I've seen it when I've tried this philosophy. I've also used IE when Pitching & like I've said before it works pretty good.

Something in my gut is telling me also that the Living Rosters are gonna make a difference in helping with Player Tendencies, which in turn hopefully will also go to make the game play as SIM as possible.

Just another tidbit for everyone, the game play is smooth. The graphics are OK, but the overall look of the game is simply beautiful. Though not polished in some areas, in the area that may matter to many (GAME PLAY) 2K has done a good job..

People here value your opinion on this game so that's good news for those that are worried that the game play might be lacking. I'm having fun with the demo but I'm glad your seeing that the game play is good because in the end that's all that matters to me.

Well that sounds a little better, lol. So if i have a runner on 2nd with two out and hit a groundball to 2nd base the cpu won't try and get my runner going to third, he will throw to first ,all the time??

It's more about fielder's reaction & range than it is speed. Since VC removed the reaction slider, these things must be tweaked from the Rosters. Either by the community or by 2K via the Living Roster feature

Thank joe for your input. Would you mind releasing some sliders that fix the game a bit So us gamers who are getting it tomorrow won't be struggling to play it sim.

They used to try stuff like that in earlier 2k games, even 2k7 if i remember correctly, i never player 2k8.

Re: The CORE Gameplay is GOOD...

Joe, your post yesterday surprised me. Until that point, you balanced criticisms by reminding us the core gameplay was good (in you opinion). Something really must have pissed you off yesterday!

Thanks for the clarification. A bulk of features/options missing in MLB 2K9 aren't things that upset me greatly. I have hope I'll enjoy the full retail version. The demo played a better game of baseball than 2K8, and most of 2K9's biggest faults seem to be omissions, not flat-out broken components.

I liked 2K8, despite the fact it was a mess. 2K9 may not have all the options and features we want, but I get the sense what's there largely works. There's a difference, in my opinion.

I'll use a baseball analogy. 2K8 may have been a soft single while 2K9 is a line drive single. Both show up the same in the box score, but the sign of solid contact is encouraging for the series next at bat.

Joe, do you see yourself sticking with this game for the year or going back to or moving on to something else?

I really want to like this game, and your opinion means a lot to me. I like the demo, and if VC can tone down the AI agression, I think I could be happy with it.

I think the biggest hesitation for me are the reports that the game has the traditional 2K Freeze-up issue. I wanted to love College Basketball so much, and I could get to within about 3 minutes left in the game, and the game would freeze up and be lost. I have read accounts of this happening in Franchise Mode for 2k9, and honestly, if the game is going to lock up during games within the franchise mode, thereby losing all of that game's stats, info, records etc... it is not going to be worth all the slider work to make the game playable.

I am willing to tweak and adjust the game to my SIM likings, but I cannot accept the game Freezing up every time I play it.

In reference to SLIDERS here are my AI Pitching Sliders:

                              Pitch Success: 25
                              Pitch Selection: 100
                              Strike Zone: 15
                              Pitch Zone: 50
                              Composure: 75

As for Hitting Sliders I'm still tweaking.

jeffy, I can see myself playing this game for the baseball season until 2k10 hits.
