But yeah, anyone else using cursor hitting and enjoying it? What pitch speed are you using? How are your results?

Anyone else using cursor/ zone hitting?
It seems most people are using the directional, Total Control Hitting and I was curious if anyone else besides me was using Cursor/ Zone hitting. I currently have pitch speed at 50 and am seeing realistic results. I'm also worried that if I switch to directional, I'll jack homers by just holding up and pulling. I heard Guru's sliders were very good, but was curious if they alleviated the homerun issue of just holding.

I have been using cursor hitting and I like it better ecuase the cursor doe not seem to grow bigger as you do better of worse, unlike games in the past. Seems to really make you think about what the pitcher will do rather than just react to it.PSN: rankinjr -

I'm using it. Only I'm going with zone + stick. I love it, but it can get too difficult at times so I want to experiment with lowering the pitch speed. What pitch speed are you using?2006 - present, NY Mets Season Ticket HolderComment

Re: Anyone else using cursor/ zone hitting?
I would love to try it, along with going back to 3 step pitching from last year. But I'm playing on PC and so far no one has been able to find an option to change those things. It really sucks, because the graphics on full on my PC look really good, but if I can't change those things I might have to switch over to the 360."Boston's tenth man could not be wrong

Re: Anyone else using cursor/ zone hitting?
Re: Anyone else using cursor/ zone hitting?
To those using the new system, I have a few questions...maybe they could be answered in practice mode.
1) Is the cursor the same size for every player?
2) Does the cursor actually have to come into contact with the pitch to make contact or is their a margin of miss allowed?
3) If there is a margin of error, is it different for each player? Basically is there an invisable zone around the cursor which is based on a players ratings and allows for one hitter to make contact better than another.
In other words, what makes it harder to make contact with a guy who striks out a lot (say Ryan Howard) compared to a guy who does not (Say Albert Pujols)?
5) What about the sweet spot? Is it displayed the same for each hitter? If not, good. If it is the same for each hitter, does it seem like ratings actually stretch this zone beyond the visualso that a guy who always hits a ball hard (Say Pujols) makes better contact more often than a guy who often tries to just put the ball in play (say Kendall).
I don't know if you can use two players in practice, but I was thinking if you knew you were getting fastballs down the middle, you could then start to move your bat away from contact with player A (low strike out guy) until you see how far off he can get and then do the same with player B (high strike out guy).
Thanks.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 03-03-2009, 05:28 PM.Comment

2.) No. You can still make contact, albeit bad contact if you aren't directly on the ball.
3.) I won't outright say no to this. I have started a Braves franchise and noticed that I am getting more quality contact on bad swings with a guy like Chipper vs. a guy like Gregor Blanco. I haven't played or seen enough of this to be 100% sure.
4.) The power circle is the same for every hitter. I believe inside edge determines the overall quality of hit... whether it be a lazy fly ball for Trot Nixon, or a towering opposite field HR for Ryan Howard.2006 - present, NY Mets Season Ticket HolderComment

Re: Anyone else using cursor/ zone hitting?
I started with 45, upped it to 50 now. I'll probably max at 60-65, don't want it to be too fast but 50 seems too slow. Unless of course Guru's sliders make directional hitting realistic and not just able to hit a HR every time I hold up and pull.Comment

Re: Anyone else using cursor/ zone hitting?
I use total control when I just want to play a stress free game. What I do is completely ignore the directional stick and play just like last year. I get a real good mix of hits, and I even hit the occasional HR. The problem I'm have is I never strike out, as it's easier to consistently make contact. Maybe upping the pitch speed in this case might work well.2006 - present, NY Mets Season Ticket HolderComment

Re: Anyone else using cursor/ zone hitting?
Yes, but it gets bigger as the pitcher gets more fatigued. If the CPU brings in a reliever, it gets thinner again.
Yes, the cursor MUST come in contact with the ball. It's true cursor hitting.
I honestly don't know, not sure if there is one at all. I mean, I've hit homers with ARod and Tex and Damon, but nothing with smaller hitters like Cano and Melky and Jeter. So power definitely seems to have an effect. As for contact, not sure if the cursor is bigger, didn't really notice to be honest.3) If there is a margin of error, is it different for each player? Again, power hitters seem to have MORE power when it hits their sweet spot, but the sweet spot does not look bigger for better power hitters.4) What about the sweet spot?
