Thanks, didn't figure so. I was pretty set on getting this for 360, been talking to some people about total war game, and think I am going to get the new TW:Empire instead since just got a new graphics card and new laptop. I don't really think I have time to play both, but though maybe I'd pick up this on PC for $20 bones. Might just wait and trade in for it on Goozex instead.

Re: Objective PC Gameplay Review - 1 Game Right Out of the Box
I think the PC version of 2k9 might have potential.
I have a XBOX360, PS2, and PC. I'm an older gamer who has played most baseball games (as a frame of reference, my favorite was the High Heat series followed by EA's MVP05). The last couple of years, I've purchased 2k7 and 2k8 for the XBOX360. I just couldn't get into these games. They weren't fun to me and just didn't play good baseball.
So, this year, I gave thought of going back the PS2 for the Show (haven't played The Show since the 06 version on PS2). But decided today to give the PC version of 2k9 a shot since it was only $20.
This game definitely isn't perfect and I have only played 2 games. But, it seems to have potential. Hopefully the PC community can do some work on this one like they did for the MVP series. 2k9 for the PC actually seems to be fun to play. With "fast mode" on, you can play a game in 30 mins or so. The graphics look good on the PC. Gameplay actually seemed pretty decent. Hit variety seemed good. Saw some fould balls. The ball physics seemed to be good. The AI seemed to do a good job in the 2 games I played (bunted when they should, didn't see any bonehead substitutions, etc.).
Now, again, it is only after 2 games. And there are issues. I didn't walk anyone or draw a walk. That is an obvious problem. But again, I didn't mess with sliders yet and I'm hoping that can help that issue.
But for $20, I was actually impressed. I basically wasted $60 on the XBOX360 2k7 and 2k8 versions as those quickly became dust collectors. But for those on the fence, I'd suggest considering the PC version (maybe wait to see where the modders, sliders, etc. take it--but I will say it was much better than I was expecting).
I think the "fun factor" is there on the field. Now, it is just a matter of whether it can be a good enough simulation to make the whole experience fun (i.e. can the sliders make for better reproduction of stats, will franchise mode be patched for the PC and actually work, will the AI handle teams/trades in a realistic fashion, etc.).Comment

I agree with the Brew for sure (Brewers fan by chance?I am too)
There is potential. Plus modding can make games 10x better with all of the customization. I think the game, minus flaws is fun and fairly realistic, and mods will only help!Comment

Don't start the franchise yet bud! Do some exhibition games so A. YOu can figure out some good sliders and B. Because franchise mode DOES NOT work, but they are coming out with a patch soon I think..Comment

Re: Objective PC Gameplay Review - 1 Game Right Out of the Box
I agree that this game has a lot of potential...BY FAR my biggest gripe is the well-documented AI aggressiveness at the plate...I pray that there will be a way to fix that for us PC gamers...ball physics have improved although balls that are pulled or taken the other way in the air do not tend to hook/slice much at all...Jason Giambi hit a line drive down the right field line and it followed the foul line almost exactly whereas in real life it would have hooked into the seats...I don't think mods can fix that...
Overall though, just to see what the mods can do is worth the price of admission ($20)...Comment

Re: Objective PC Gameplay Review - 1 Game Right Out of the Box
Second game in a row I have been right inline with the ball and it went by my fielder, I really hope this isn't a problem. Cost me 2 runs.
Also 2 different times in this game, and once in the last game I would field a ground ball make a fine throw to first that beats the runner by 3+ steps and all of the sudden SAFE, like nothing happenedI hope that doesnt' keep up either.
BTW, there are ball boys. When I hit a 2 run home run a ball boy greeted me at home alongside the other runner I just hit in. I wish I took a screen shot of that.
Is there a tutorial on how to pitch?Comment

Are you sure it was ball boys, and not bat boys?? There is a big difference for me, haha those titles go a long ways at my job!
Pitching I love actually, I am getting quite a few K's. I throw balls, mix up location, mix up speed, and sometimes listen to what the C is calling. Also I use the Inside Edge a lot which is helping a lot.Comment

Re: Objective PC Gameplay Review - 1 Game Right Out of the Box
I keep reading about CPU over-aggressiveness at the plate, but I'm just not seeing it.
I'm playing on All-Star in a Phillies franchise. I would say about 90% of the time I go with the catcher's suggestion (for realism! philly pitchers love how c***iz calls a game but I digress). The catcher does call for pitches out of the zone, and when he does that I throw it out of the zone! More often than not the batter will take the ball. I do see them swing occasionally especially when they are behind in the count. But what I really think it does is it causes them to take more pitches in the zone. I struck out one hitter on a curveball in the zone from B.Myers and there was a few other times during that game where I saw the CPU take called strikes. I think in general what you should aim for is a 60-40 or 70-30 strikes to balls ratio as a pitcher. You need to throw balls to keep hitters off balance. It's real pitching strategy and it seems to be effective against the CPU. (which would make sense, if CPU batters' abilities are based off of inside edge reports)Comment

Re: Objective PC Gameplay Review - 1 Game Right Out of the Box
Been lurking for years, but thought I would chip in on the PC discussion. This is an absolute no-brainer for $20. I'm not going to repeat what others have already said, but it's already pretty darn good and with modding has incredible potential.
Last week I moved our computer into a room with an HDTV. I thought why not try to run the computer to HDTV in addition to the monitor. I needed to go 15 feet. I went to Best Buy and the only DVI to HDMI cable they had was $99.99 for 8 feet. I looked online and got a 15 foot cable from Cablemart.com for $9.95. I thought how could I lose, and I didn't. I got it in the mail last night and popped in 2K9. My son is a complete graphics whore and his draw dropped at the quality. The colors popped more than on my monitor, and the animation was smooth.
Since that was a complete success today I ordered a TOSLINK cable (25 ft.) and adapter for $25 so I can get sound.
I'm still going to pick up the Show for the PS3, but I have to say I'm very impressed with 2K9. I hope the computer version sells well (it was hard to find in RI) because the computer platform has too long been ignored for sports sims with the exception of text sims over the last few years.Comment
