I have to agree. I love 2k8, had loads of fun with it last year. The pitching and batting controls were over too many folks heads...its a shame.

I didn't see it in the demo either.

I think 2K9 is better in than 2K8 overwhelmingly. And I really liked 2K8. Post patch, and once I got a nice set of sliders, 2K8 was really a great game. It's just fun to hate on it now because it shipped in pretty poor shape.

But this AI aggression thing is bugging me. I CPU hacked like crazy in 2K8 as well. It's just that it never got mentioned amid all of the other problems. But once it got patched and played better, it was still hard to go deep into counts with 2K8.

The complaints about the computer swinging at everything is WAY overblown.

Is 2K9 simtastic? No, it's really not. Is it a blast to play? Hell yes.

I'd still give it a 7.5 or so. It's not the defining baseball game I was hoping for. The base of the game I want is there. Heck it was there last year, but Kush was rightly taken off the game. VC spent this year cleaning up a mess instead of pumping ut a defining game.

The game 2K shipped will get lots of play by me. That makes it worth the $60 I spent.

To the person complaining about the pitching. It wasnt hard last year, after about 2 games you got it down and it was never really a problem again, unless your eating some greasy chicken and your finger slips off the analog stick. lol Btw, you can go back to that setting, its still there.

I didnt care much for 2K8 at all myself. I played 2K9 more then i ever did 2K8. It just didnt hold any replay value for me.

Hopefully Manny signs with the Dodgers tomorrow so then i can really start playing online. hah

I have had no problems in the demo with fielding either. I'll probably pick up the game later this week, but seems like half the posters have no problem with fielding while the other half don't seem to know how to field. I always use manual fielding, never automated or assisted. Maybe assisted fielding is causing problems for others?

As for last years game, after they patched it it was a blast to play. But for me, the commentary and atmosphere really made it boring to play where after 2 months with the game, I never touched it again.

One question : is there a fast mode in the game? One thing that annoyed me with the demo was pressing the button to move the game along.

              Re: Doesn't match 2k8's Gameplay

Its my opinion that 2K9 actually took a step back in the pitching, hitting, and fielding mechanics compared to 2K8. I understand the 3-step pitching is still an option, but it doesn't seem to be exactly how the 2K8 version was (minus the meatballs of course). The fact that I don't even have to do the motion and can just place the right stick in the initial position of a particular pitch motion and still perform that pitch quite effectively is a little concerning.

I think no longer having to worry about the step influence and timing of the step removes the overall enjoyable challenge to the hitting and gives you a little too much leeway. I will say that the hit variety in 2K9 is MUCH better than 2K8 ever was though. The fielding, from the demo perspective, has many occasions where you feel you are properly under the fielding icon for fly balls and yet the ball inexplicably drops in right next to them without them making an effort to catch it.

I think for the hardcore gamers, if 2K8 would have simply been a consistent 60 fps with 2K9's new commentators people wouldn't be complaining about 2K8 as much as they have. I really don't think THAT much was improved from 2K8 to 2K9 considering all the dumbing down of the controls and missing features found in this year's version compared to last.

A.I batters weren't hackers in 2k8...Don't know where you got that from.

In 2k9 their all a bunch of hackers, and to top it off, they can't even hit a freakin' curveball.

sounds like they dumbed down the game this year but I think they had to to appeal to a more general audience. I liked pitching last year too, thought it was very realistic how you had to mimic the actual motion of a pitch to make it work. But I could see where a lot of non hardcore gamers would be turned off by this since it isn't as easy as just pressing a button.

You are right. This was not an issue in 2K8 or 2K7. I still don't understand why the developers removed the AI Take Strike/Ball sliders, as that is really what was used to keep the AI agression more realistic in 2K8/2K7.

Was it 2K7 or 2K8 where they couldn't hit a sinker or split finger? Whichever it was, it was the first time I ever saw them being used almost exclusively as a strikeout pitch.

The cpu has had a pitch weakness for years now. I think the pitch just changed, is all.
