2nd Patch is going to be a HUGE test

When/If the 2k devs actually put out a 2nd patch, it is going to say A LOT about how much effort they are actually going to put in this game vs. just calling it a year and start working on 2k10.

This game has SO much potential and I actually enjoy the gameplay. However at the same time, there is SO many little bugs and glitches scattered across the game that it gets downright annoying. My main gripes:

Editting Players: This includes the inability to edit players as well as the limit placed of amount you can edit.

*Chances of getting patched?* It's hard to tell if this was an intentional omission or they simply overlooked it. If I were to guess, I don't think they will patch it. But that's just me.

Fielding: OFs seem SO slow at times, and all of a sudden they get a speed burst. Hard to get to the ball sometimes There is no option to edit the Fielding Cam. I think the ability to zoom in would help. I feel so displaced from the action.

*Chances of getting patched?* MAYBE they could include a fielding cam in a patch. But as far as OF speed and all that? I doubt it. Fielding would have to be completely overhauled

    Here are minor stuff:

Baserunning: I like 2k8's controls better. I'm having a hard time with this year's version. It just doesn't seem right I wish they would allow me to change.

Blown calls: Plays at the plate are sometimes downright WRONG. Like it's not even close. A few blown calls is ok once in a while, that actually adds to the realism. But not on a consistent basis.

Throwing to first base: Sometimes the first basemen isn't even touching the bag when he catches the ball. And this isn't even a poorly thrown ball either.

Dust? : The dust trail looks really weird and wrong. Obviously not a big concern of mine, just an observation.

I have read about all the other glitches such as OFs running through walls, homeruns that aren't home runs and etc. Haven't had that happen to me, but definetely something I'd hope to fix.

I agree. However, my main gripe is the AI Batter Aggression. I'm surprised you didn't mention it.

well first off its hard as ever to watch pitches in online games, you have to swing so fast, you cant work the count like offline, witch really takes alot away from the game, and i mean alot, second when you want to playoffline, then we get the AI batter aggresiveness, this games has some good points, but it just needs a patch badly!!!!!!

I have only played 4 games on 2K9, but I think its been a great improvement from 2K8.

I agree with that Dust thing, I laugh when I see it.

The minor stuff should all be relatively be fixable...I had the home run thing happen to me, but as long as its very sparce, its not that big of a deal.

I haven't fiddled with the editting stuff, can I not edit someone's stats and OVR?
        The Buckeyes WILL prevail!

the game has plenty of promise but the pitching mechanism is all effed up and the AI aggressiveness is through the roof...it's like they rushed to get it out.

I hope these things can be easily patched but if they can't...I'm sending this game back.

Playing as the Red Sox against the Nationals...Beckett can't strike one guy out. Hell...I can't even get a 2 strike count against anyone. In 2K8...I'd at least have 4 or 5 strikeouts.

And I'm losing 5-2 because I can't throw strikes with this idiotic pitching mechanism.

Just give me a one button and bring back the throw meter like it was last year...longer you hold down the button the harder the pitch but less accurate and allow the R button to hit location. I throw my 4 seamer on the outside and with the stupid yellow circle...it ends up inside and low and golfed into LF

Practice your pitching in the Practice Mode. I played Redsox versus A's last night, and Becks was the Player of the Game with 11 k's.. might have been 12 even. only a couple were with the Cpu looking at the third strike, but he was ringing them up. You absolutely need to mix up the pitches, and work the corners. I think the pitching is too easy once again, but if you pitch smart, you'll get guys out.

I'm an adult. I don't have time to learn a game. I just want something I can pick up and play. With all the bad things about 2K8...that was one good thing...it was easy to pitch.

I don't want to learn timing of a yellow circle. I just want something where all that matters is how long you hold the button to determine speed and when I want a ball in a certain location....IT GOES THERE or at least in the general area. I am taking breaking point into consideration...but no way a slider down and away to a LHB should all of a sudden break in at his knees where he can golf it into the LF stands

haven't seen this. I think once you get the hang of the pitching system (1-2 games), you hardly ever miss your spot.

EDIT: I should say that i've only played the demo, though, so maybe it gets harder. That said, I still haven't heard anyone comment on this having changed from the demo.

Re: 2nd Patch is going to be a HUGE test

I'm an adult too. Therefore, I realize that taking 5 minutes to learn to do something the correct way, will pay great rewards for time spent versus frustration down the road.

The two step process is easy. Aim your pitch with the L stick, make the movement on the R-stick that the coresponding pitch tells you to do, and let go when the circle gets to the outside ring.

You'll find that if you do it just right, you get a nice "Max" light up and tell you you did it correctly.

So, you can either learn to pitch and have fun with the game, or you can do it the wrong way and get shelled, and hate it.

As an adult, this seems to be an easy choice.

If they can't correct the editing thing I won't buy it. MVP 2005 plays well enough for me and it's got full updated rosters.

I'm crossing my fingers the developers realize what a mistake it was having limited editing. It's baffling and in the year 2009 it something they should explain.

I have tried the dang practice mode and can't throw a strike with it. I do the double tap method that i learned here (i use classic mode) but it doesn't work the way it should.

This game has a ton of promise...but until they can patch this and the over-aggressive CPU hitting...this game will not be what it can be. I have 28 more days with this and if I can't figure it out by then...it's going back to Gamestop and I'm getting a full refund. I don't play many games anyway.

Try the new R-stick pitching. I works well, and you can work the ball in and out, and get some nice movement on the ball based on the release.

Like I said, I had Beckett with 11 k's and the Star of the Game. And I had sworn I would go back to last year's pitching, but that 3 gesture deal got tweaked and is too wonky for me. I will try to get better with the 2 step pitching, but som far, so good.

Ok, I may have forgotten the AI aggressiveness. I may be one of a few, but it does not bother me AS much as everyone else and here are some factors on how I have worked around it:

                          1) I throw a lot of different types of pitches and more importantly I throw balls. I do not simply try to nibble on the corners of the strike zone or try to get a 0-2 count right away. I tend to walk players a lot more often in this year's version and find pitching a lot more challenging as you really have to be smart about it. Trust me, if you really are strategic about your pitches and really work he count, you will get deeper counts and more strikeouts. I got 8 with Kazmir against the Phillies just recently. AI DOES take pitches, probably very often, but you can't simply pump in strike after strike and expect not to get rocked.

                          2) This is a personal thing. I am a sim player, but at the same time, I do not like to play LONG LONG games. I really do not expect my pitcher, or the AI pitcher to rack up a 80-90 pitch count. In order for me to knock the AI pitcher out of the game, it will probably take me racking up some hits and runs against him, OR I will just fix the pitcher fatigue a little but so he gets tired after 6-7 innings. It bothered be that Oswalt pitched two complete games against me, so I will probably adjust the pitcher fatigue slider.

Again, this game as great potential. But at the same time, I have never bought a game that is SO MUCH in need for a patch as much as this one. My love is franchise mode. I don't really play online. I don't really wanna start up a franchise, and get all invested into it, and then stumble upon some bug or glitch that completely kills it. I am very nit picky about my franchise so little things bother me. So I will be very anxiously awaiting this 2nd patch. We'll see how many things they can resolve...

that's working a little bit better...still not getting any strikeouts because the AI is too aggressive at the plate...but at least i am hitting my spots better...just seems the computer is omnipitant(sp?) and knows exactly where the ball is being pitched

Start your pitches out of the strike zone and bring them back into it. So, for a pitcher with a two-seamer, aim the ball cursor out of the zone where it just starts to vibrate. Then make that nice pitch. If you make a good pitch, the ball will move back towards the plate, and more often than not, you'll get the batter to take that pitch. Keep nibbling. Just Nibble, nibble nibble... You'll get strikeouts.
