    MLB 2K9 Controls/Options Thread.

In this thread I'd like everyone to post any controls or tricks that you have found while playing the game that may not be mentioned in the manual or maybe isn't covered well enough in the paper thin manual.

I think this might be very useful considering how poor the manual that accompanies the game is this year.

One thing I'd like to know, is if there is a way to bring up a menu to warm up your pitchers and sub them in without hitting start, and going into the sub-menus? Is there a button or combo I can bring up to get to my pinch hitters?

Please everyone feel free to add to this, even if you think that everyone already knows about it!

    This is OS.

Press down on the D-pad anytime in game. That will call up your batter/fielders/pitchers, and will allow for subs, warmups, and runners, hitters etc...

      Re: MLB 2K9 Controls/Options Thread.

Here's a writeup I posted before on the hitting options:

      ----------------------------------------------------------

The two main types of hitting are:

      Total Control Hitting:

      - Push down on the Right Stick to set your batter, then when you are ready to swing you push up on the Right Stick.

      Classic Hitting:
      - Press the A button to swing.

NOTE: With both Total Control and Classic you can also influence the direction of the hit with the Left Stick (Up for flyballs, Down for grounders, left and right to hit to either side, and every angle in between). For instance: If you want to hit a fly ball to right field, then push up and to the right on the Left Stick. The location of the ball in the strike zone has an effect on how well you can aim it, so it's best to influence your hit towards the location of the pitch (if the pitch is to the right of the zone, then push to the right with the Left Stick, etc). However, you can still aim any direction you want regardless of the pitch location, but your results will vary base on the pitch location.

Options you can enable for both Total Control and Classic hitting:

1.) Batter's Eye: The Batter's eye can be enabled in the options. What this does is allows you to attempt to guess the location of the pitch before the pitcher goes into his windup. You will see a dark circle that you can move with the Left Stick to guess the location. If you guess correctly, you will be able to see the location as the pitcher is releasing the ball and you will see a color flash that coresponds to the type of pitch (fastball, curveball, etc.)

2.) Zone Hitting: This is essentially cursor hitting. As the pitcher goes into his windup, a yellow cursor will apprear on the screen shaped like your bat. You use the Left Stick to line up that cursor with the ball as it crosses the plate while swinging at the same time. The quality of your hit will depend on how well you lined up the cursor. If you hit the sweet spot of the bat, your hit will be more powerful.

NOTE: You can use both Batter's Eye and Zone Hitting at the same time.

      Hope this helps

I suggest spending some time in the Practice mode. It's a really good way to try out all the hitting options (as well as the various camera options for hitting) to find what you like the best.

If you want the greatest challenge, I suggest turning on Zone Hitting. It definitely takes more skill and can be rewarding once you get the hang of it. If you are just starting out though, you probably want to stick with regular Total Control or even Classic if you are more used to button pushing for hitting. Remember you can still influence the direction of your hits with the Left Stick even if you are using Classic hitting.

Thanks, don't know why I didn't think of that. I kept trying to use the bumpers and triggers like the older games.

Yes, something I made a thread about because I thought it was still broken from the last generation versions. Not broken, just a little wonky.

If you bring in a pinch hitter for the pitcher, and then the next 1/2 inning you want to keep him in, you can. You replace the pitcher with the player you want to take out(who the first pinch hitter is replacing on the field). Then in the IN GAME defensive subs, you can swap in the player you brought into pitch and put him on the mound. You can't do this from the PAUSE menu, it has to be in the IN GAME menu that you get to with the d-pad down.

When on the rosters screen, to look at your minor league team rosters, click the left thumbstick in. Once for AAA, two for AA, three times for A, and again will bring you back to the MLB team roster. Also clicking the right stick on any player's name will bring up his player "card".

How do you switch from Total Control Hitting to Classic Hitting on the PC version?

You can Influence where you hit the ball by just pushing up in the direction in where you want the ball to go by just using the R-STICK (No L-STICK to influence is necessary)

When fielding in the outfield if you move your outfielder toward the ball indicator & slowly let go off the stick, he will go into an automatic/locked animation & catch the ball every time without dropping it..

Go to options and then to control setup. Once in the control setup menu press 4 on the keyboard and it will bring up another menu that will allow you to switch to different pitching and hitting types.

really? I like this idea, I'll have to try it...might feel more natural. I only want to influence left and right, I'd rather the grounders and flys happen naturally..

I'll have to try this - it seems sometimes if I don't flick the R stick up then it doesn't swing. So you're saying I can flick the R Stick right or left to influence the hit as well? Cool.

Does anyone know of an easier way to see your opponent's lineup or bullpen while in the middle of a game without accessing the box score through the pause menu? I miss the lineup cards.
Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
