    Re: Calll me crazy...

If I may toss my two cents into the proverbial hat here. I hate people complaining about the game as much as anyone. For stupid things like, oh this one players stance is off, or the bill of this hate is supposed to be blue not red. I realize that this is indeed a video game and it would be very difficult to make this game perfect. I'm fine with all that.

The thing that I am not fine with is the fact that this game is possibly worse than this game, for the simple fact that they have taken a step back in the little areas. Several times my outfielders have not been able to catch a simple fly ball, even to the point where i've had to turn the game off because it ha allowed the CPU take take the lead when it never should have happened. The first baseman should not be pulled off the bag for no reason. My baserunner should not automatically want to run home on a simple single. There have been a number of issues with this game that should not happen.

Now I realize that I sound like just a huge ***** here, but like others have said the only reason I complain is because I wanted this game to be so good, and was so encouraged by the new presentation, but the gameplay has really taken a step back and almost makes the game worse than last year. That's why I complain.

I don't wanna be "quasi-profound", but this is a corporation existing in a capitalist system. That's how it works. They make a product, they try to make back what it cost them and keep their investors happy. If the investors and the customers aren't happy because the product is no good as is the case here, they stop buying the product and the company goes under. But to say that they somehow "owe us" a good product to me is wrong. They make it, it sucks, you don't like it, I TOTALLY feel for you and wish it wasn't like that. But to think they have a responsibility to make a good product, I don't know. Again, maybe I'm insane and I'm the onyl one who thinks this way. I just don't see it. A working product isn't an inalienable right. In fact, in most cases it's a rarity. Are they jerks for making it crap and pretending it's ready and good? Yeah, they are, I agree.

You know what's worse? The tools on X-Play that reviewed this game like it was the second coming of Pac-man. Did they simply not play it? Did they not know what to look for? Either way, it has killed X-Play's credibility for me. Not that i watched them that much to begin with.

Alright, sorry again if I angered anyone.
Your are absolutely right BUT in a capitalist system it is CRITICAL for consumers to voice their opinion on products (cars, games, groceries, whatever).

Furthermore, 2K purchased the exclusive rights to MLB which, in an ironic twist, gives them a monopoly on a very popular genre (the way MLB has a monopoly). Therefore, it is doubly critical that criticism is vented with the hope that, perhaps, MLB hears what is happening and it effects their licensing decisions in the future.

Now understand, I like the game and roll my eyes at about 40% of the complaints (but there are some legitimate issues). Still, this is how the market must work for the benefit of everyone.

I'm not sure what game I have but I'm not gonna lie I like this game a lot. At least as of right now I am really enjoying it. Yes the computer doesn't take strikes but I am really hoping this is fixed with a patch. Bigfnjoe's sliders are pretty damn good and they have made the game fun. The gameplay is incredibly smooth, the commentary is brilliant, the stadiums look amazing, and it just makes it fun to play. Obviously there are parts of the game that are ridiculous like players reacting in the completely wrong way to events during the game, the players look funny at times, and other obvious things. Could this game be better? Yes it could but I really don't find it as bad as some people are making it out to be. That is just my take on it.

Frankly, I just get tired of dropping $60 for a game that has sooo many bugs right out of the package.

I could care less about what the Show is doing, simply because I have a 360 and no way to play the show. I could care less about the people in the stands, the batting stances, the lighting, etc....But what I ABSOLUTELY do care about is my outfielders catching the ball, the CPU swinging at every pitch, the A.I. is just inexcusable. Frankly, 2K Sports should be embarrassed with this effort. They did eveything else pretty good.....except for one small part, the ACTUAL GAMEPLAY, you know..the most IMPORTANT part. THAT is why I call out 2K Sports.

Very good point. I totally agree with that. But unfortunately no MLB licensing reps care about this. As long as they get their cut for the licensing, they don't care about these details. For us and a lot of people, gaming has become a dominant force in the entertainment industry, but it is as of yet, not thoroughly accepted as such by a majority of people. Most people, if you ask them, still think video games are childrens' play toys and not the thriving entertainment industry they are.

That's the real problem. Go into congress and ask about video games and you'd likely get responses like "Do they still make Pac-Man?" Video games are not treated like the billion-dollar industry they are.

With that being said I'm enjoying the hell out of this year's game and that's from someone who HATED 2k7 and 2k8, absolutely hated the games.

Out of the box, not sure much there were a lot of issues but via Bigfnjoe's sliders I've found a ton of fun in this game.

                Re: Calll me crazy...

Actually, the perception is changing. I read/saw some studies that demonstrated how many people in this country--adults particularly--are "gamers".

You can see the market reacting by the increase in product placement ads. And remember, even games like 2K9 cost millions upon millions of dollars to develop; meaning this is big business.

I think the 60+ crowd (maybe even 45+) is still somewhat out of hte loop, but adult gamers are spending big money and even women are playing games at an astounding rate.

I think you'd be surprised how much power the buyers of video games actually have out there in the market place. Especially now when vidoe games sales are one of the few parts of the economy still booming.

Very interesting discussion this has become. People writing about gaming and the industry is also helping with social consciousness of it. For example this book which I think every gamer should read because while it's stuff we all know, it's good to see someone trying to explain gaming to the masses.

I think we all agree here that pointless complaints are a waste of time such as the color of the hat etc.. I think that gamers are aging and have a voice that needs to be used. I am 29 and a father of two and spend around $300 + a year on gaming supplies and such and I expect a good deal for my $60 when I purchase a game and want to invest my time playing. (time is more rare than $ for myself) I think that this game is decent, could it be better yes, do I feel that they ripped me off, no. I think that these companies rush the product out the door too often instead of taking the BRAVE approach and waiting untill the game is ready. I would have had no problem waiting untill April for a better product. I don't think it's fair as a developer to rely on patches to fix the game as not everyone has internet hookups on their systems.
                    Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

There will always be ridiculous compaints and people that expect too much, but the great thing about the internet is having a forum to voice an opinion, and due to the MLB monopoly, we can't vote with our wallet per se. Every baseball season I come here and waste far too much time because it happens to be the one sport I care about. I'm not a huge fan of Madden, but I don't come here and flame Madden because in the end I don't really care if I have a great football video game. Same goes for basketball. I rip 2K only because I'm truly bummed that the console I shelled out big money for does not have a baseball game that I consider playable or enjoyable.
