    (PC) Simming Accuracy

The franchise glitch (free agency) really dampens my enthusiasm for the game. But, as others have mentioned, the problem is much worse in the offseason.

Maybe the answer in the short term would be to play a season without extensive simming and focus on gameplay and roster management within 1 season. Which raises the question of what 2K9 is doing with all the games that I'm NOT playing. How accurately does it sim game results?

To help answer, I simmed an entire* season with current lineups and CPU trades off. Results are below.

    * I couldn't help but notice that Boston had a game at Atlanta when the scheduled pitchers were Smoltz against Lowe. I had to play that one. I smoked the Braves 8-1. JD Drew had a 1st inning grand slam, Bay hit 2 HRs, and I even scored a run or two NOT on homers. But by far the craziest thing about the game was when I pinch hit Big Papi for Smoltz in the top of the 8th. For ****s and giggles, and since it was a blowout, I left him on the mound to work his one pitch: 1 14-rated fastball. Ortiz mowed down 6 batters on 6 fastballs.

Aggressive batting aside, I like the gameplay. But I have some slider work to do, obviously.

    Anyway, about that season?

    AL EAST
    Boston (102-60)
    Tampa* (91-71)
    New York (80-82)
    Bawlmer (77-85)
    Toronto (76-86)

    AL CENTRAL
    Chicago (88-74)
    K.C. (84-78)
    Minnesota (83-79)
    Detroit (81-81)
    Cleveland (73-89)

    AL WEST
    Oakland (85-77)
    Texas (79-83)
    LAA (79-83)
    Seattle (64-98)

    NL EAST
    Philly (92-70)
    NYM (89-73)
    Atlanta (82-80)
    Washington (80-82)
    Florida (69-93)

    NL CENTRAL
    St. Louis (92-70)
    Cincy* (90-72)
    Houston (82-80)
    Chicago (81-81)
    Pittsburgh (73-89)
    Milwaukee (72-90)

    NL WEST
    Arizona (86-76)
    San Fran (78-84)
    San Diego (76-86)
    Colorado (75-87)
    L.A.** (71-91)

    * The Yanks apparently lost Jeter for the season and could not trade for a replacement. Not to mention their inability to sign a FA...
** Manny starts as a FA, and is not on LA's roster.

Those things in mind, the results aren't COMPLETELY off-base, I guess. Player stats in next post...

    Re: (PC) Simming Accuracy

    League Leaders for simmed season:

    HRs
45 A-Rod (Clearly his virtual hip was fine)
    39 D.Ortiz (Rebounding nicely from 08)
    39 E.Longoria

    AVG
    .342 B.Hawpe (wow. okay)
    .334 R.Theriot (career year?)
    .332 H.Ramirez (no problem here)

    RBI
    136 D.Ortiz
    132 B.Inge (holy hell)
    123 M.Teixiera

    On the mound...

    Wins
    20-6 R.Oswalt
    20-6 J.Lackey
    18-7 G.Floyd

    ERA
    2.80 R.Oswalt
3.22 R.Johnson (Fountain of youth discovered in Scottsdale)
    3.26 J.Beckett (hey, he went 3.27 in 07)

    Ks
    224 A.Harang
    222 T.Lincecum (cover athlete)
    217 J.Beckett

There's lots more where that came from, including a whole menu of sabermetrics, but I don't have all night

What do I make of it all? There's no "Bo Jackson" in 2K9. Numbers for league leaders were about right, though there was some weirdness in WHICH players led the league...

    Recommendation:
Playing a season is still worthwhile, I guess. Be prepared for the occasional breakout performance, though. And let the CPU trade

Good post. This is what I found as well in my sims (360) and the early reviews posted. The stats themselves are mostly fine (with the exception of closers mainly) but some of the guys posting them is a bit odd.

I think what I might end up doing if I put any real effort into this game is simming several seasons (all in year 1) and find out who's popping up as the odd ball accumulator. Then it's just a matter of adjusting ratings from there.

As for the records, they seemed mostly okay, but the Angles and Yankees stuck out like sore thumbs to me. Still, no game's gotten that perfect though, so it's not too bad and can likely also be adjusted via ratings edits.

So no patch for the PC version? Does the PC version use games for windows?

        NFL: San Diego Chargers
        NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
        NBA: Chicago Bulls

I don't believe so, no. (Haven't unwrapped it yet, but I just looked at my box and the logo wasn't there)

As for the patch, hope is not lost. There was not one planned, but given the outcry for one, 2K already has a thread going trying to get the most glaring issues pinned down. Hopefully that will translate into a patch.

Simballer (VC dev) seemed to think that while one wasn't formally planned, it would likely happen soon enough. we'll see. For now though, no patch.

I'm hopeful there will be a patch.

So far, the only one who's mentioned that there might not be one is the guy who runs interference for the dev teams at 2K's forums (Ron). But I think that has a lot more to do with him following orders not to make promises on teh interwebs before he knows that they'll be delivered.

            I think it'll get done.

I'll gladly take those sim stats. Makes playing a season worthwhile! Hope they patch the franchise issue and AI aggressiveness though.
