mlb 2k9 and the proverbial learning curve
This game is not for the faint of heart that is for sure, but after messing with sliders, learning to play this game a certain way and really getting a hang of what 2k is trying to do with this game, I'm seeing a completely different game. I really think IE is not implemented correctly(where people can just pick this game up and play it. I honestly dont think most people even understand what its doing), the controls take some getting used to and the game is not balanced right out of the box. But once you figure out how 2k meant this game to be played I'm starting to really enjoy it. Is anyone else experiencing what I am? Like every other 2k game you breath on this game wrong and it breaks, why so many people threw it out the window understandably so, but if you figure certain things out you'll notice what i'm talking about no? I'm finding this game pretty rewarding at this point and no i dont have it balanced perfectly yet and I may never, but it's getting close. I think IE still needs some work and there are bugs here and it's not perfect but I'm seeing some really good baseball here. The batter and pitcher battles are there at this point and it's a chess match. I'm seeing all sorts of cool stuff. That's a good thing. I think i've gone from hate to love here. Yes this game is a major headache and a half and an exercise in frustation until you get it to play right for you, but I'm going to say it. This game might not have the bells and whistles and graphics with that other game but it's is a great choice for those of us not willing to spend $500 and is just as fun. If a patch helps improve these things even moreso, it will most definately be right there. Thanks to bigjoe and wookie.Last edited by kGinGreen; 03-09-2009, 02:52 AM.Tags: None -

Thing is if you take the time that I did, this game is very rewarding. I'm seeing tons of those little things at this point and am really enjoying it. Just need to tune down the hits a bit still and get the k's up but it's an enjoyable game now at least. It's just still more geared to be a hit fest. I'm hoping the patch resolves some of these things. People who think this is a terrible and shallow game are only looking skin deep though. This is actually a very sophisticated game that just is not quite there yet. This game has a good amount of depth to it.Last edited by kGinGreen; 03-09-2009, 05:57 AM.Comment

Yeah, I'm finding things almost daily that I either didn't understand at all or was approaching the wrong way. Some are easy adjustments while others are a pain (i.e. taking the time to look at IE closer for each player) but I find that I enjoy the game more every day. As stated, if 2K can patch the known issues, this game will definitely be one of my favorites.PS5 GT: hawkfandave827Comment

I agree. The game is far from perfect, however, after tweaking the sliders (thanks to some guys from here) and reading up on how it is NECESSARY to use IE when pitching (also thanks to you guys here) i'm definitely having fun with this game, and believe it will only get better as time moves on and information continues to be shared from user to user. If 2K can clean up some of the bugs with a second patch, then even better. But as of now, with all of the personal tweaks made, this game is more than enough to get me through baseball season.JUST WIN BABY!!Comment

How are you supposed to know how you're experiencing the game. You don't list any experiences, and how do you think 2K planned the game to play? You don't give any substance other than just making a few statements.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

I'm enjoying the game too, but can you state why you're enjoying the game, specifically?

I like how you have to approach every batter differently. im also seeing some pretty smart AI from the cpu on the basepaths, when fielding and just different stuff. For example the cpu hit a slow roller down the line, i rushed to it but was scrambling and tossed it to first not in time. The cpu had a runner on 3rd and broke for home after the fact seeing i was scrambling. i threw home and made a bad throw. little stuff lliek that. ive seen the cpu tag the runner and throw to first, etc... no its not perfect but better stuff than past years.
The mechanics of the game in general seem very good. Once you learn to lay off the throw stick and stuff like that. I like the swing stick as well. I'm seeing myself hold up and cool animations from fielding to hitting. This game has quite a few animations. I'd still like more but there are quite a few. I'm also seeing the cpu do the same and some cool animations at the plate. I see them take pitches, swing and miss, check swing. all sorts of stuff. The hits and k's are still a little bit high and low and the ai can still be horky at times but it's much better.Last edited by kGinGreen; 03-09-2009, 05:38 PM.Comment
