this may be a stupid question.

i was wondering. if 2k has the exclusive rights to baseball, then how are the people who make the show able to use real names teams, and stadiums. when ea got madden, 2k had to use fake names and teams etc. why is that?

I believe 2k has the exclusive rights in making a cross platform MLB baseball title. Meaning, any other developing companies cannot produce an MLB title, such as EA. Unless EA or other dev companies decide to individually make their own consoles. SCEA is Sony's own game developer and made their MLB title specifically for Sony systems. If SCEA was not part of Sony and was a 3rd party developer, they would not be able to do it. Hope that made sense. Anyways, feel free to correct me if I am wrong in that statement

Sounds good lol. I google'd this and found NOTHING on the rights for SCEA to make MLB games. So I guess it is just for 3rd party. But if thats the case, is it similar with the NFL? And if so, why hasn't SCEA taken a shot at Gameday again?

Yeah, 2K specifically worked an exclusive deal that was intended to drive EA out of making baseball games in retaliation for driving 2K out of football. Under the deal, Microsoft (which owns the rights to High Heat), Nintendo, and Sony can make their own baseball games.

EA's deal is more exclusive, so even 1st party developers cannot produce football games.

Well Microsoft killed ALL of their sports titles. XSN pretty much was dropped completely.

That was a move to appease EA, if I remember correctly. You could never play the old EA Sports games online until Microsoft and EA reached an agreement, part of which ended up being Microsoft getting out of the sports game business.

Re: this may be a stupid question.

The irony...or more appropriately, the sad thing about each of these exclusivity contracts, is that we, the consumers, have been hit the hardest by these acts because they removed the superior product from our selection.

-We lost MVP which was headed for greatest and get left with an inferior product in the MLB 2K series to take it's place

-We lost NFL 2K which was clearly the most immersive and realistic NFL game and get left with the Madden series which has been stumbling in mediocrity for the last 10 years.

-And too boot, we lose the entire Microsoft line of sports games such as Inside Drive, NFL Fever, their NHL Hockey title and I even think Links Golf was part of that deal too. All these titles were starting to create their own niche in between realism and fun games to own as alternatives and ...poof! gone

                  Its really a shame
